Do both of the stock front coil springs on a 240 have the same specs or are they different from each other? Also, what are the uncompressed lengths of the stock front and rear springs? Thanks, Victor.

With the post about Internal or external voltage reg.I share this info. The external unit uses a mechanical relay that turns the voltage from the alternator on/off to the battery. The internal uses a zener diode or avalanche diode as it is sometimes called. This is a small resistor looking electronic unit that acts as a relay. When you use jumper cables to start a car with low battery, the "good battery"car senses a charge is needed whne the cables are attached and goes into charge mode.Once the low battery car is started and the cables are removed that voltage must go somewhere. On the mechanical unit the relay opens to stop the charge mode. The internal unit passes it thru th…

A lesson to be learned I suppose. I was having a new differential installed on my 71 240z (Along with a cltch and tranny--it gets to be a long story) and I thought I would put in new bushings and mounts especially on the mustache bar. Me and the mechanic I was working with knew the old inside casings on the mustach bar bushings had to be reused for the new urethane ones but an overzealous helper did not and destroyed one in getting the old bushing out! What can I do now? Does anyone have extra casings or know the exact sizing so I can have one made up? I looked through the catalogs and didn't see any replacement casings available except for what I saw on page 85 of the Vi…

:stupid: is the front strut assembly (including brake) of an 81 280zx exchangeable with a 240z front assembly? (240z brakes seems not that strong).

Howdy. You may remember my car has been parked for 12 years or so. Should I drain the diff or just top it off? Any recommendations for oil to use?

Ok -- I have sectioned my struts, welded them back together (1.5" shorter than before!) and I am all set to weld on my coil over spring collar perch on to the tube, only I am not sure what I should set the distance to. 2Many, you mentioned that the GC distance *(note: I lost that sheet) was not where I wanted it for the 280. My threaded sleeves are 4" long. Where should I weld on the perch? Thanks!

Is it always necessary to align after new sruts go in. I'm presently installing tokicos in the 240 and if the car drives straight after I'm done I'd rather not realign. Any feedaback would be appreciated. Burt

Is 260z suspension better than 240z suspension? I think i read somewhere that the 260z rear suspension has longer travel, and you can lower it better without getting problems. are 2+2 struts different to 2 seater struts. Is it an easy swap? Or it it better to go for aftermarker replacements? Also my front wheels seem to have excessive negative camber. I Think the bearings are worn, or could it possibly be a bent stub axle? the previous ower was under the impression it was bent by the owner before him. I cant see any damage to the strut tower, but the frame rail is a bit banged up underneath, though that could just be from jacking the car up incorrectly.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to who to buy from?? Looking for a good deal. I have seen the ones offered at www.strictlyz.com and this looks to be the best deal I have found so far. Opinions please.. Does this forum support group buys? If Mike approves, and enough of us are interested maybe we can get a discount on a group purchase??? Thanks, George.

The original Differential in my 71 240 was very loose and noisy so I purchased a different differential from a wrecking yard that is nice and tight. The drive and shifting improved dramatically but the darn thing really has a loud howl as I proceed down the road. Can anyone tell me if there are many things that can cause this howl or one thing that maybe I can correct myself. The noise was bad enough that I changed back to the old diff. I have not yet tried to take it apart . Any ideas? thanks.
