I am rebuilding my 240 Z calipers (yes I know about the Toyota 4x4 conversion but not ready at this time) and would like to know if they can be honed or just cleaned up with emery cloth. Or does anyone know of a good reference on the web?

I've swapped out the steering rack bushings to poly, I've swapped out the steering coupler to poly, and I've also put in the MSA T/C kit. The wheels currently on the Z I installed 2mo ago I of course had them balanced. As an old good habit I duct taped over the wheel weights so they don't fall off. I've checked & all are still firmly in place. What's been happening is this: at medium speed (40-55mph) and in medium L and R corners (the steering wheel is turned 20-30degrees from its straight ahead position) I am getting a very noticeable vibration. It isn't really really bad but you also could not go without noticing it. I get just about no vibration at all when going s…

I have a clunk, Its coming from the diff where the axle bolts to the diff itself. If I grab the axle theres alot of play where it goes into the diff. I was looking thru my VB catalog and noticed they sell a diff bearing race and seals. I believe these are the culprit. Is this bearing race a complete bearing? Has anybody replaced these? Any tips or tricks to doing this? Its not the u-joints. Thanks Dave p.s its a '72 w/r180

i have a '71 240Z that was neglected for a while, and when i got it, the brakes were locked, and the clutch had no feel at all. i put fluid in the clutch, still no joy. come to find out the slave cylinder was toast, so i replaced it. no joy. so before i go replacing the master cylinder, i was wondering if there was something i may be missing. i can see the clutch fluid moving around in the master cylinder when i depress the pedal, but i not sure if it is actually working. oh and one more thing, are the wipers and horns always broken on older Z's? they don't work on my 240, and i have a '79 280zx that they don't work on either. just wondering. thanks.

Does anyone know the correct settings? I am taking the car in to check the alignment, they dont have the data sheets for the 240Z at the garage so can anyone help me out with the info id need such as the Toe-in setting and any other data that they'd need. Thanks.

Just wanted to get some feedback here. Yes, I am one of those folks that don't like the 14" rims. Sorry. I am looking around for rims now, and can't decide on 15" or 16" ones. Not taking "looks" into consideration, is there anything I need to know regarding these sizes? Is there anything special I should know about these larger sized and any potential problems?

Took these off my '79 parts car last night for a possible adition to my '71 project. I can't believe how wimpy these calipers are! The pads are, like, 2 square inches!!! and the caliper 'housing' is a big stamped piece of sheet metal! I know this is a hotly debated topic, but I can't help but wondering how this could possibly be an upgrade over the stock drums with decent shoes. Is the raw physics of a disc brake that much better that this little thing would stop better than drums? steve77

Just removed the diffy from my free '79 parts car last night. Tried the Royce method and got 16.75 turns of the input for 10 turns of the axle. So this is a 3.365? I was told it was a R-180 by the person who gave me the car. Does this make sense to all you diffy pros out there in regards to year/ratio/model??? I guess I need to go back and try and find all the available specs... steve77

I just got my 71 240 and it needs new struts. I have read all the threads on here and want to know if anyone has used the Gas Ryder struts from Autozone. The reason I ask is two fold 1. I am looking at making it a standard street car. 2. The Gas Ryder struts are only $24.99 for front and $29.99 for the rear. If anyone has any experience with these struts on a Z or other car I would like to know what you think of them.
