Well, since I finally got to drive my car for the first time to work today, I have a question. The PO has told me that at one point they had put a 5-speed in this car. I can't get him to confirm whether or not they replaced the differential or not, though. Which leads to my question. I have the original 4-speed (A-Type) in the car. 215/60/r14 Yokohama S306 series tires. At 75 mph, the rpm's are at 4100. 60 mph is around 3200 rpm, but I can't confirm that reading like I can the 75 mph one. Anybody have a way to figure out what my final gearing is in the differential? Car is a '71 Series I if that helps.

The 3.36 open diff rear end that came with my car had it. The 4.11 open diff rear end I have on the car has it too. What am I talking about? I am talking about the type of open diff where the halfshaft ends actually attach to it by way of one long (5") 10mm sized bolts for each halfshaft end. To get at them you actually have to separate the rest of the halfshaft from the end. Ok so everybody is following up to now right? Now my 4.375 open diff rear and the Nissan Comp LSD I just got in the mail from half way across the world apparently utilize different ends for the halfshafts. They are different in the sense that they are held in there by way of a circlip, so the halfsha…

What gives you more dry grip, narrow tires or wide tires? Why is it universally accepted that wide is best? Does temperature of patch area figure in at higher psi's? (and I don't mean the pressure IN the tire). Lets ignore downforce in this discussion. steve77

Why is it that all the TCA bushing kits I have seen for sale basically only replace one half of the bushings? The delrin bushing and aluminum cup fit on one side of the TC rod while the other side still retains the OEM rubber bushing. Is that right??? Shouldn't both bushings for each TCA be changed (for a total of 4)? Aftermarket TCAs with spherical bearings on the end of them are more and more appealing everyday. -e

I recently bought a 1980 280Z after a few years of driving and restoring lesser vehicles. When I turn full lock there is a clicking/clunking noise from whichever side I am turning towards. I can't find anything wrong with steering components and maybe they all do that but it is a bit unnerving... Ross Thompson Dunedin, New Zealand

Hi all- list traffic is slow today, so here I am on the forums! My mastervac is out for repainting, and I removed the actuator rod (master cylinder side) to keep it from falling out. It's got some sort of grease on it; what is it? I need to regrease it before reassembly. Thanks!
