So here's what bothered me the most about the 2002 MSA West Coast Z Nationals: Too many cars with crappy suspension. It was everywhere. I can't believe people sometimes. There were HUNDREDS of beautiful and well-thought-out cars, many of them with hundreds of hours of time involved...Beautiful cars, unbelievable paimt jobs, screaming engines, hybrid engines with custom fabbed parts and machined billet stuff and crazy turbos and intercoolers and carbon-fibre stuff and polished EVERYTHING and wild body kits and sensible body accessories unbelievable exhaust systems and stereos and on and on and on......AND YET: Get down and look under the car and what do you suppost yo…

i just put a set of porterfield R4 pads on my ITS 1973 240z. the old pads were sort of glued on with this purple stuff. what is it and do i need i on my new pads? the caliper was quite different than on my other cars. no shims or springs, just those bars held in with the hairpin clips. thanks, -james

I recently bought a 77 280Z in near mint condition. However, it will need new bushings and shocks. It has Michelin X 195 70 HR 14 tires (all season) with 3-4 K miles on them. On the highway, it tracks perfectly and has a nice solid feel. In the city, the steering effort seems very heavy. Heavier than the 78 280Z I owned from 78-86 (based on my memory). Nothing is binding, all is smooth-- just very heavy. Here are my questions -are the steering gear ratios different between a late 77 and a 78? -are the Michelin X tires too sticky? (my 78 had Michelin XVS and the original Bridgestones)-- what tires are recommended?? -will bushing upgrades to suspension and steering mechs he…

Well, I have an early Z ...HLS30-19867.....and there are no bushings in the shifter. Do I have to replace the metal fork? It seems worn and its probably not going to bend closed with my help. Are the bushings for later model shifters? Thanks Zztom:sleep:

After a long bit of research I have finally concluded what I believe to be the correct tire size for '70-'78 model Z's. They origianlly came with a 70 rated 14" tire, usually a P185x70x14. Of couse this varied depending on the dealer of course. I have dabbled with 15" and 16" wheels, and yes, even with 17" wheels on my 240z. Nissan designed it to be a 14" tire. To go outside of this will mess with speedometer reading, and other things as well. I have even heard it will affect braking. In any case, I now go with, and recommend, a 60 rated 14" tire. My exact size, P215x60x14, all the way around. It gives me the look I want (low profile), performance (lower side walls = bett…

Howdy, Okay, I know a front hub cannot be swapped with a rear control arm. But can a 280Z hub be swapped onto a 240Z axle and similarly a 280Z rear control arm be swapped onto a 240Z rear suspension? MSA has the same part number for the front wheel bearings '70 - '78 so no difference there. But they list separate part numbers for the hubs and control arms so I am wondering what's the difference. With the control arms I could see it being the hole for a swaybar. I checked the fiche but it is hard to tell if the later numbers are compatible and replace the earlier number or if they are physically different and not interchangable. I've got a few of them on parts c…

What causes the steering wheel to shake when braking? Typically does it when slowing from over 35mph.

I took out my 3.36 over the weekend to temporarily put in a 4.11 while I finish rebuilding my 4.40. Obviously the speedo which was suprisingly accurate is no way off. I know I can get an adapter gear to screw on the tranny where the speedo cable plugs in. But where do I get this? Don't have Motorsport's catalog in front of me but do they have that too??? -e

My Z did came with bizarre tire size. 197/70/14. Is there any other way to know what is the right size I can put, (I want to stick with 14 inches)? 195 looks borderline for the rear clearance of the fenders... Help me please!
