I just bought ball joints, tie rod ends, and boots for the front suspension refresh. This came in the box (I missed exactly which one). What is it and what is it used for?

Well, I failed at replacing the stub axle end u-joint on one of my half-shafts. I easily removed the original u-joint. But, the Precision brand #393 did not cooperate. I suppose I used too much force pressing in the caps and bent the flange ears. Should have used a spacer (to keep flange ears from bending) and probably measured the diameter of the caps on the replacement part. Soooo, anyone have a junk half-shaft they are willing to get rid of cheap? BTW, I have two complete axles coming from Ebay, but I want to rebuild my original shaft if I can. Thanks.

I'm beginning my suspension refresh and have been gathering parts as I disassemble everything.as I do research I'm finding that there seem to be two camps on where to source parts: OEM due Garda and OEM doubters. I'm looking for specific feedback on when to buy OEM over aftermarket and was hoping someone would chime in with examples and information. I get that people are anti-china, but I'm not really seeing any actual data or concrete information on which parts are superior. So let's start: BALL JOINTS OEM ball joints are available from a number of sources, but I've had some professional mechanics tell me to go with Moog and spend 1/5th of the OEM price. TIE ROD …

I just lowered my car off the jack stands to install the motor. I have installed new polyurethane bushing throughout, new struts along with eibach lowering springs for a overall 1 inch lower. My front end does not want to relax and be a natural state. Is this due to not having the engine in? Is the front typically that stiff? Not sure of what the norm is.. When I bought my 240z it came with a pole of new parts. For some reason I have 6 struts tubes. I’m replacing struts and springs on my 73 240z. Im not going to track it. Street driving is all I’m going to do. Maybe put down to cars and coffee. My understanding is KYBs are better, but I only have 2. Which would be better? 2 KYBs and 2 Gabriels or 4 gabriels? If it’s 2 and two, which should go up front?

My 73 240 Z has horrible stock springs. PO jammed foam in the back and sprayed foam up front. I have a 72 parts car but wanted fresh springs. I ordered 4 Chevette front sprins pet 6558 from Car ID. I have a fresh set of strut cartridges too. The big question is how much to cut off the Chevette springs. Could anyone with experience with these let me know how much they removed? My goal is stock ride height. BTW, I know these threads typically turn into a debate about the merits of lack of merits of a Chevette spring swap. My goal is to learn what is an effective amount to cut from the springs.

In my Haynes manual the specs at the start of suspension and steering chapter states as follows: 240Z: Front Coil Spring wire diameter 0.417 both sides, LH and RH. The free length states: LH is 14.1 and RH is 15.1.....If I am seeing this right then why a 1 inch difference in the length of front coil springs on a 240? Next to this it states a 260Z both sides are 15.5 inches long, just saying. When I put my stuff under the front wheels a while back I saw this in the Haynes manual and got to checking my front springs. I put things back together as they came apart, does not make it right I know but I have a rear spring on the front left and not sure about the front right. So…

Hey guys, I need new coilovers at all 4 corners. Regardless of the fact that I have no idea yet which ones to get, I need a few questions answered: Where did you take your coilovers + strut tube to have them welded together? (do I need a specialty shop or what?) How much did it cost to weld all 4 coilovers? (I plan on taking them the new coilovers + disassembled part) What do I need to provide to the shop to have the job done? (which OEM parts, what kind of info do I need to provide in terms of ride height, etc.)

I rescued this from a Series One 240z part out. In the original picture of it that the seller snapped, I mistakenly identified it as a 1600 Bluebird SSS steering wheel. Up close though the rim is not that plastic imitation wood, it is foam rubber like a 74-78 s-30 ZCAR. I think it is Nissan as it utilizes a 240z horn button mechanism. Anyone have any ideas?

Just wondering if anyone has put spring isolators (thin rubber/urethane) on the bottom mounts for the rear springs? I know my other Zs have either used isolators or little rubber coil sleeves (covers about one revolution) at the bottom to reduce noise I have the rear suspension disassembled currently so thought I'd do this if there is a suggestion. ALSO, I got KYB 361001's for the rear -- TWO THINGS: 1) I guess I need to either grind one side of the threads or grind out the flat edge of the upper mount insulator to fit them -- is that everyone else's experience? 2) The retaining 'nut' at the top of the strut housing -- it doesn't fully seat -- (by may…
