I just went through the forum and can't find any specific mention of whether or not the strut bellows off a 280z work on a 240z. The reason I am asking is that I have seen mention of Tokico voiding the warranty if you install their structs without bellows, and I have also seen that OEM 280z bellows are available. I have poly bump stops that came on the car and had intended to use them. If the 280z strut is essentially the same dimensionally as the 240z strut and there's nothing that should keep them from fitting, I'll pick up the OEM ones... because I like OEM stuff unless there's a good argument for aftermarket. If any one has specific knowledge of a better option or…

I have new rear shocks for my 71. Of course in my haste I start following Haynes instructions and quickly run into spindle pin removal issues. Started researching and found the long history of these pins. I have the set pins removed (which weren't bad). I started backing out one side with washers and the original nut. It's about 2" out but the threads are worn out now and I consider one side's pin destroyed. So, I pulled both sides by removing the inner side of the control arms. I have them off the car. I'm not planning on doing any crazy suspension mods on my car. Just want to get the shocks in and get it back together. I could probably just throw one side back. That …

Has anyone had recent success finding suitable replacements for '78 steering pinion bearings? Prior forum entries on this topic discuss replacing the obsolete Nissan bearing with one that is 1MM thinner & using a spacer to fill the gap. No problem. However I have been unable to find an angular contact bearing with the correct ID and OD, much less sealed on one side like the original. Thanks.

The PO never marked the steering wheel where it was originally, now I need an alignment and want to have the steering wheel in its original position. Is there an alignment mark or something to indicate if the steering wheel is correctly mounted to the steering shaft? thx Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Hi everyone, I've read that the tokico rear illumina struts are the same thing as the front, but just have a short piece of tubing at the bottom that lengthens them just a bit. To anyone who's installed some tokico struts and dealt with the spacer- what is the proper length of the spacer so that the struts sit at the proper height? I'm picked up two pairs of front struts and am planning on just making the small spacer myself. Has anyone done that? I'm wondering what size tubing to buy and the proper length to cut it. If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Hi all, I need reminding please of what the threaded holes are for marked 'A' on my 1970 240Z differential mount . Also, am I correct in saying that the small steel plate marked 'B' goes between the mount and the insulator - it's been some time since I dismantled it but I'm pretty sure it does. Thanks

I recently decided my rear struts needed refurbing. I was thinking of going with cartridges but I decided to keep it all orig and try just fixing the stock setup. I only needed to replace oil and I changed the O ring. I did the bleed per the manual but I did not do it well. I can see why cartridges are so popular, bleeding can be pain, esp due to weight of the strut/drum assembly. Anyway after noticing that the struts did not damp well unless pumped a few times after the install I decided I would give it another go. I also realized that I had not put in a bumper. Now this was mainly due to the fact that there was no bumper when I took it apart. there was a lot of tan debr…

I am currently in the middle of trying to pinpoint the rear clunk I am getting from my '71 240z. I recently installed a GM transmission mount that replaced the trimmed cone bump stop in my RT diff mount bracket. I did not re-install the lower diff mount as many owners have claimed not to need it once they moved to this setup. Additionally, there does not appear to be enough room for the old mount. Unfortunately the clunk is still there but I wanted to get opinions on the state of my old lower diff mount as I do not think I will be keeping the GM trans. mount due to the head of upper bolt greatly interfering with the parking brake cable mechanism. Looking at the condi…

I've often heard that a typical car manufactured in North America will cross an international boundary five times during the course of manufacture. Last week I found out why. Last week I was replacing front wheel bearings and seals on my 240. The local Nissan dealer, bless 'em, had what I needed, specifically an inner bearing, an outer bearing and a seal. So I'm buying parts in Canada for a Japanese car. I get three packages, all marked SKF - a Swedish bearing manufacturer. The seal is made in Taiwan, the inner bearing Brazil, and the outer bearing China. Nothing made in Sweden, Japan, or North America. Must be a good time to be in the shipping business.

I plan to refresh the rubber on the rear suspension soon. Got OE inner bushing, new spindle links, did NOT get new outer bushing (thought I had them already). Thinking I should get a new OE diff mount but was waiting to see how mine looks when I get under there. The hope is the spindle links will come out using washers as spacers (draw them out with the nut and washers). Will post up some video when I get into it. Any hints?
