This is for a '72 240Z: Has anyone used the Energy suspension Urethane tire rod end boots? I can pick up a pair from Rock auto for about $4. Vs. $13 bucks each for rubber ones from Motorsport. Motorsport doesn't seem to offer the Energy suspension tie rod boots for the 240, although they do for the 300Z. Is there a reason to avoid the Energy Suspension ones on the 240? Thanks, Steve

Alright guys, I'm finally getting around to replacing my worn out mustache bar bushings. I thought I'd write this up to show what I've been doing and to hopefully help someone out who's about to tackle this project. First off, these things were terrible. It's turning into one of those projects. "Well, I have to take this off to get to that......so I might as well sand and paint it too." So here's what I started off with. The arrows point out the old and compressed bushings I'm replacing. You can see the slack between the bar and the bushings. Here it is all taken apart. Mustache bar and rear control arm mount taken off. Some people say to burn these bushing…

Hi. My bushings are shot and need replaced. While at it, I figure I might as well do some cleaning and painting of the components as well. Somewhere, some time, I came across an article with tips on removing the front cross member and suspension as a unit while leaving the engine in place. I didn't bookmark it and can't find it now. I found a post by Chas on replacing engine mounts which is close, but this article I saw before was pretty in-depth. This ring a bell with anyone? A link would be very much appreciated.

Silver Mine just sent me a notification about a new product. An electric PS kit for the S30. This is one of the most complete kits I have ever seen and the price point is pretty good as well. $900 and it's literally a bolt in kit. Everything is included and fabricated. No cutting or welding involved. http://www.silverminemotors.com/featured/electric-power-steering-kit-for-240z-260z-280z-datsun-1970-1978-s30

Needed to convert the power steering to electric on my Miata engine swap and ran across this option that will work on our Zs. What is neat is that you can dial in the amount of assist needed. And if you are so inclined you can add a tilt mechanism to the steering wheel.

Hi, This is my first actual post on any forum so I apologize if this has been posted before. I did some searching but just wanted to double check. I was wondering if anyone knew the diameter of the steering shaft on a 240z. Particularly the smooth portion not the threaded part. I found one answer of 16mm but I was just trying to make sure that this is the diameter that I was looking for. Thanks in advance for the help! -Ethan Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

I have a 1972 (July) 240Z. Can anyone help with my steering rack disassembly. I have what I am going to call rack stops that are steel rings about 35mm OD on each end of the rack. They seem to have some type of rubber that can be seen on each side at the ID. Does anyone know if these are just pressed on and can be removed and then reused. I want to be able to finish disassembling my rack but the stops are causing a problem. I have tried twisting but they do not move. I do not want to destroy them. I believe this came from the factory as I am the second owner of this car and purchased it back in 1977.

Other than the FSM alignment specs, are there recommended settings for greater high speed stability or better handling for an early 260Z? The suspension on my car has stock springs, Bilstein inserts, heavier anti-sway bars, front and rear camber adjustment kits, t/c rod kit and adjustable t/c rods. The car will only be used on the street. Thanks.

I am a bit odd. While many on the forum like lowered springs, I always liked the slight rake in the rear suspension of the 280z compared to the 240z. I never liked the squat in the rear of the 280zx. I am about to replace my factory shocks and my rubber strut mount insulators on my '71. I drive the car about 1,000 miles per year and it has about 60,000 miles on it. I don't race the car or drive it hard. It still has the factory springs and I planned to keep them. Will replacing the rear shocks with adjustable shocks such as Tokico adjustables reduce the amount of squat on acceleration? Will doing so make it ride like a log wagon? Will it have any affect on t…

HI I have a well cared for '71 with 60,000 miles. I plan to replace the factory shocks this winter along with the rubber strut mounts. I would also like to replace the rubber steering rack bushings and the steering coupler but I would really prefer rubber parts. But those don't seem to be available. Will I be negatively impacting the car's ride quality by replacing low mileage rubber parts with new urethane parts? My concern is my 45 year old car feel like those new bushings are made of concrete. Is old rubber better than new urethane? I should also point out I drive the car perhaps 1,000 miles per year. I don't race it or anything like that. The suspensi…

Hi guys! We are just about ready to order some OEM RUBBER bushings from zcar source for the 240z so i just need to make sure i identify the correct type of bushings and the total number needed (to do LEFT & RIGHT sides) for some parts, as some of the rubber on the Z is eaten up so severely that i cant even make out that there ever was any rubber there! REAR control arm- I looked at the ZCAR SOURCE DIAGRAM, and can see that the Lower control arm bushing forward (#8) and Lower control arm bushing rear (#9) are the bushings normally needing replacement. I mistakenly call these (#9 & #8) the "inner" a-arm bushings as opposed to the "out…

Hi All, I'm sure this has been discussed to death by now, and I've been slowly trawling though all sorts of the previous existing threads however I want to hear some accounts about peoples suspension setups, and their opinions on them for road use. I'm yet to drive my car however, from what I've been told having US suspension the car will be very soft and bouncy on the UK roads (compared to the European Spec suspension). We will wait and see in due course though. That being said long term I will be looking for suspension suitable for fast road use on UK roads, with this in mind I would much prefer to stray more towards comfort than to outright performance and a hars…
