Just took my car to the mechanic on saturday and lifted it on the elevator. Mechanic noticed one of the bushings of the left rear control arm was not installed properly and looks as it is bitten. Do i need to replace only the lower control arm bushing forward and rear? http://www.zcarsource.com/rearsusp-diagram.HTML Please advise as i do not want to purchase the wrong bushings! I have already replaced all the bushings contained in the Energy Suspension 7.18101R Hyperflex Master Kit for Datsun 240Z. Maybe the former mechanic istalled this one too tight! I am also thinking on sandblasting and painting these arms. If so what color and what is the correct proc…

Hi guys, i'm considering getting a set of the BC coilovers. They require you to cut off your strut housing leaving a 2" nub. The new assembly slides over the 2" nub and then you weld the new assembly to the base. Sounds easy enough, right? My question is this.... is it necessary to remove the wheel bearings to do so? Maybe im being lazy but it would be soooo much easier to just unbolt the assembly from the car, weld them on, then reinstall. Other than having to remove the brand new bearings I just put in, probably have to buy new bearings, reinstall and repack with grease. Will the welder heat up the carrier so much that it could warp the bearings? Just wanted your t…

Again, I'm proof of the old saying, 'no good deed goes unpunished". I'm on a bent to improve the overall enjoyment of my Z, and a couple of days ago I decide to scrap my front adjustable control arm setup in favor of some actual suspension that knows how to soak up bumps, ie stock rubber bushings rather than bone crushing vibration passing heim joints. The installation was straight forward, stock control arms, stock T/C rods with fresh rubber bushings. Job took me till fairly late in the afternoon, and I wanted to be done in time to make it over the usual Wednesday evening show and shine at a local venue to meet up with other Z club buddies. Finished up, through on the …

Was attempting to remove the gland nut from a front strut and after a an hour of every trick I have I just forced it with 6' leverage. A little less then 1/3rd of the threads have peeled back and the gland nut screws down and back up very well.

I did not pay attention to which way this part was facing when i tore the car down! It's off a 77, It will go on either way but I want to make sure I get it right. It attatches under and behind the rear diff. Does any body have a name for this part and which way it faces? Thanks in advance.

a while back i did a suspension re-fresh with eibach progressive lowering springs, staag struts, beefier sway bars, new bushings, tc arms w/ball & socket. the car handles infinitely better, and i love the feel with body roll all but eliminated. this is my DD, not a track car, so i wasn't looking for the ultimate cornering weapon, just a fun sports car for spirited street driving. the one thing that's always bugged me since is that the stance was just a little higher in the rear. i picked up a set of the shorter 240z rear spring isolators and finally got around to doing the swap. it was done in a morning and i'm happy with the results. it's subtle, but it feels jus…

I had a local mechanic put in new bushings all around. When finished, car makes a thumping noise. She seems to feel loose and rattle back and forth when shifting, going over bumps, and foot off gas and replaced. The mechanic says it is nothing they did. Could it be they did not tighten everything back? Any ideas what it could be? Thank you.

I been going though the archives of this subject and for me at least it's a dizzying array options and requirements. I have a longnose R200 open diff 3.90:1 with ujoint half shafts that works perfectly but would like limited slip capabilities. Is there a clutch type or viscus type closed gear set that I can install in my existing housing? Thanks, Chris

Long story short. My fairly rust - free Series I is getting some cash thrown at it right now. 3.0L Rebello with zTherapy 4 screw round tops @ 10:1, 15x9-0 Shakotans, 225/50R15 Kuhio ASTs, front air dam, lots of electrical and weatherstrip/interior parts and.... suspension. So my initial plan was to go with a narrower rim and tire with Tokico kit. Sadly since it's now discontinued, and Eibach/Koni seems to be the only other option for a drop and stiffening, it's going to be coilovers I guess. Now... it is a series I and I've kept all of the original parts, so welding in camber plates is something I really don't want to do. That said, I've looked at alternatives, and whil…

I'm sure some of you recognize this piece. I like the triangulated / gusseted setup even though it's harder to take off for valve cover, yadda yadda. Comes from a place who has "been making this part for more than 10 years and .. will admit to being terrible about marketing it" This does not, will not fit on my car. I've been going around with the manufacturer for a week now. It is, according to them, within their acceptable build specs. They've given me the choice of forcing it onto my car (could never happen even if I wanted to try that) or refund. I got the set. The rear went on beautifully, no problem, required drilling, all done, I don't really want to take…

I've decided that replacing the suspension in my 78 is the first big job I need to tackle. Would love to get some advice or suggestions on my available options. Sorry this got long! First, some goals and intended use: The car is/will be my toy, so I want something that'll be good for canyon carving and some, um, generally spirited driving around. As much as I like the idea of having something capable for a track day, I've never taken any of my cars to a track, and I wouldn't expect that to change for a while. I want to have a drop of about 1", mainly to fill the wheel wells and improve the stance a bit. I'll be getting wheels eventually; probably something like XXR 5…

1976 280Z with Eibach springs and Tokico Blues I've been dissatisfied with the Tokico HP Blues in my car for some time. As many others have noted, these shocks seem to have too much compression valving and not enough rebound. This makes for a very uncomfortable harsh ride. The rear is particularly bad with feeling that the shocks are seized or that the car is riding on the bump stops. That's been checked and both shocks and bump stop clearance is good. The shocks are just plain harsh. I've had Race cars that rode better. Had some Tokico Illumina's ordered from MSA, but it turns out there inventory count was off. 2-3 months to get more. In desperation I ordered some KY…
