I've researched this site but could find no consensus on adding oil to the strut housing when you put in new strut cartridges. Any opinions or facts? If oil is added, what weight and how much? KYB instructions just said to empty the oil out of the strut. Thanks, Victor.

  2. Hi guys does anyone know if the front balljoints change throughout the S30s model years? are there different part numbers between '69 and '78? I ask because I bought some ball joints which were supposed to be for my '73 and while they do look identical to the ones currently on the car (even down to the grease fitting), they don't line up with the holes in my lower control arm. If you put the new balljoint in the LCA opening so that it sits flush, the holes are easily 1/4" off... Was I sold the wrong part or have some of you experience this? BTW is the grease fitting a metric size? I've got a (cheap) grease gun from Harbor Freight and it's near impossible for it to seal we…

I am looking for new springs and struts for my 1973 240Z. I would like to keep the ride as close to stock as possible but unfortunately stock springs are no longer available. In reading old posts the closest thing I have found to stock is Eibach pro springs with KYB GR2 struts. However, MSA recommends against this combination because the lowered eibach springs will shorten the life span of the GR2's. Can anyone comment on the longevity of the Eibach/GR2 combination?

I recently bought a 77 280Z in near mint condition. However, it will need new bushings and shocks. It has Michelin X 195 70 HR 14 tires (all season) with 3-4 K miles on them. On the highway, it tracks perfectly and has a nice solid feel. In the city, the steering effort seems very heavy. Heavier than the 78 280Z I owned from 78-86 (based on my memory). Nothing is binding, all is smooth-- just very heavy. Here are my questions -are the steering gear ratios different between a late 77 and a 78? -are the Michelin X tires too sticky? (my 78 had Michelin XVS and the original Bridgestones)-- what tires are recommended?? -will bushing upgrades to suspension and steering mechs he…

Now that I've added the 15 x 7 Panasports & 205/60HR15 tires I am thinking of dropping the car 1"-1.5". I have new KYB's (361002/361003's). What springs would you recommend to accomplish this? ST, Arizona Z, MSA? The KYB's say not to use a lowering spring.....I don't want a bone crusher ride and don't plan on replacing the shocks. Recommendations?

  6. Re-doing rear control arms. The outer bushings (Hyperflex) are ~ 2mm too thick. The hub assembly does not fit between them. The last time I did this I had to sand the bushings. I did read after that some freeze the bushings before installation but 2mm seems like a lot of "shrinkage" (George?). Anyway can anyone vouch for the freezing trick or is there something else that is easier?

Ok I know we have been through this before, but I want a difinitive answer from a few of you guys (Coffey, Mortenson, et al). Let me start by explaining where I am coming from and where I want to go. When stationed in Italy, I sectioned my struts, and installed GC Coilovers, and Street Prepared camber plates. Spring rates were 175F, 200R. I do not remember the exact cartridge GC sent me but they were Illuminas. I used the car as a daily driver / Auto-x / Track day car. I was also using the GC 1" front bar and the Susp Tech rear bar. I loved the setup but upon return to the states found the ride too jarring. Out came the coilovers, in went stock struts raped from a…

Hello, I´m thinking about getting these springs into my `72 240Z, but i want to find out some more details about them and if they suit my driving needs better then the Eibachs. I could get almost any info (beeing a german engineer makes some things easier), but i need the Vogtland Art.-No to identify them. Could anybody provide me the number written on them? It has to start with a "95" and is 6 columns long. Thanks.

I have an early 260z and wanted to know about this upper steering bearing. I hear this annoying squeak coming from the bearing right now, but i cant seem to find any replacement options (NLA) 48910-23100 #5 on http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/steering/steering-column it seems super dirty, if i cant replace it, is it possible to remove the inner housing and clean+ repack it? it looks like some of the balls are missing as the distance between the balls are not consistent. I found this thread by @Captain Obvious but the images are no longer available.
