Post your questions and answers about these major components of the Zcar and anything related.

  1. Does anybody ever come across any Bilstein inserts for 240z anymore? I am in search of a full set front/rear. I had a set of Bilstein rears back in the 80's and I loved them. At one point I thought there were shorter ones available that would fit with a spacer in the bottom? I'm also looking for stiffer springs, but not too stiff. Any suggestions? I don't really want to do coilovers, or cut my struts, and I'm not racing, but want something stiffer than stock. Right now I'm running 225/60/14 on my old slot wheels and getting tire rub in the back when hard bumps or cornering happens. Thanks, Steve

Hey mates While driving back home from work today I was forced to brake hard on the freeway (basically went from 75 to 30 in a rather short distance). When I reapplied the gas my car jerked, as if one of the wheels was loose. Confused I braked hard a few more time (making sure no one was near by) and long and behold the car does the same thing again. The best way I can explain this is the car literally jerks to the left when I reapply the gas. When I got home I pulled the front wheels off. The drivers side seems quite normal with no movement, but the passenger's side I can move the wheel a few inches in each direction (left and right) as if the rack has a LOT of play. Any…

Hi, A lot of folks lower your car. In order to lift up, you might need some low profile ramp. I notice that low profile ramp is quite expensive. This race ramp cost more than $200. Those ramp are around $40, but it's not low profile. I googled and find a lot of people DIY ramp. some metal version. Those looks professional build. I might end up with.... Once finish using it.... What low profile ramp do you use???

Can anyone send me the height and details between a 240z and 260z springs. Trying to purchase a set of rear OEM Factory used springs of a 260z and need to be sure they will give me the correct stock height on my 240z. Anyone has the information on the FSM? or a comparative chart?

  5. This is my Project car! a 1972 240z! I have noticed that the car seems to low on the rear suspensión and always bangs on Street bumps! Do I need to replace the whole shock absorber? or just the springs. If it were the springs which Brand is recommended? Is there a set that comes with shock absorbers that come with springs? 1970 1978 Datsun 240Z 260z 280z Springs | eBay

  6. Started by Hardway,

So I can see the light at the end of the tunner with my rear suspension rebuild. I am putting KYB's on and all 3 of my other struts went back together fine. However I cannot get the final glad nut on the right rear strut started on the tube. I put some anti seize on it to help give it some lube and hopefully make things easier should I need to take it off again. The threads on the inside of the tube appear to be okay and not cross threaded or anything. But when I think the nut is started and looks straight I start turning it with my wrench and it just pops back up out of the threads. Also, due to my many attempts from of the threads have become damaged on the glad n…

  7. I have read a few write ups and the instructions from GC on installation for a 240Z. Needless to say I am confused. I was wondering if there is a write up with clear measurements on cutting the strut housing tubes and the spacers? I also read that they need Koni gland nuts? Thanks.

I've been going back and forth about getting GC coil overs. I have heard that the Tokico Blues will and will not work with the coil overs. Does anyone know for sure? I also understand that sectioning the strut housings and going with shorter inserts in recommended when lowering a car. What is the max. I can lower my car before having to section my strut housings? I already have fairly new tokico blues on my car now. I would like to drop my car about 2" and I do not take it to the track, although it would be nice. Thanks

My son was working on his M3 the other day and found he couldn't get his spring compressors in the space allowed in the strut tower. This is similar to the problems in our Z's. He found a work around that may also work for our Z's. He bought 36" pull ties at the local Home Depot and found them rated at 175lbs. Jacked the axle up to compress the springs and installed 10 pull ties between the uppermost and lowermost coils. And as in the nursery rhyme, "there he kept them very well." If you are simply changing the strut, you are good to go. If you need to remove the springs, install a conventional spring compressor after you clear the strut tower and fender. Pull ties can b…

Do you think new poly bushings are better than the PO's finely crafted duct tape version? Sorry I should have gotten pictures.

I am about to change the shocks and struts in my 78 with KYBs. What other parts must I consider also changing out when this job is performed? I heard strut mounts might be good for starters. The car has over 300K.
