I have a 1975 first generation 280Z but its stance is similar to a Subaru and I have found several brands of adjustable coilover suspensions to choose from. I am wondering if anyone has any experience and success with any particular brand? I am not interested in racing the car, just improving performance and stance, and I know that there are some kits that require very little if any fabrication for the installation. I don't want to go through this and make the same mistake without being able to get the car to a true sports-car stance, so it feels like a sports-car when driving it. Thanks, Michael

Hello all, I attempted the rear strut replacement this afternoon on my 1971 240z. After failing, and doing a search doing it the way the manual says to do it is a joke. Then there is the Atlantic Z way of doing it (Disconnect the opposite side of the transverse link), which I was going to attempt to do before I saw this little video. Fast forward to 1:50 to see what I am talking about. From what I can tell, I would only have to disconnect brake lines, disconnect driveshafts at the hub, the three bolts on the top of the strut and it should all drop down, and swing out? Is this correct?

Ok, so I've got a poly bushing kit, including 4 bump stops. Here are what my current upper spring seats look like (I have 2 of each): The first one seems to have an integrated bump stop. Should I try to remove it (looks bound pretty solidly)? Also, when disassembling my suspension, I noticed that there ware NO strut bearings! Are they necessary? I think there are supposed to be at the front? My new KYB dust boots also come with white bump stops. Which way would be best?

Do I need to grease this new Moog tie-rod end (see attached pic)? There already is some grease in the hole, but there's no zerk fitting and the hole isn't threaded. Is it meant to be "no-maintenance"?

Good morning All!! I am in the process of installing Koni shocks on my '71. After getting some great help from John at Fred Martin Nissan in Akron, I've come to the conclusion the threads on the rear gland-nuts AND the inside of the strut tube are just mangled. One tube is out of round at the top, about 1 thread-depth out of round, so it doesn't want to screw on at all. And the other gland-nut threads and tube threads are good for about 1/4" and then smashed at the bottom of the threads. Has anyone had this problem before? The threads are 48 x 1.5, but I don't know where to get a tap/die kit to clean threads with this diameter. My Dad and I think maybe having the top…

If you don't know about the brakes on your new classic Z and it has a wobble in the steering wheel around 30 mph then you should try this. I replaced the inner and outer front wheel bearings, had the rotors turned and new grease packed in the hub. $50 to go from driving what felt liked a cooked spaghetti noodle to an uncooked noodle, stiffer without the shakes. Here's the info; http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/frontwheelbearings/index.html http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/suspension-steering-s30/52750-wheel-bearing-race-removal.html

I guess I've never done this the right way but I want to now. I'm replacing the inner and outer bearings and the races need to come out. Is it as simple as it looks, blunt punch on the indented area's? Putting the new ones on do I tighten the castle nut down until they seat then back off until it spins freely? Thank you for sharing any experiences, Cliff.

Doing a ground up rebuild. My half shafts looked good and operated smoothly, but decided to rebuild them since they are 43 years old. Now that they are cleaned, with new grease they won't slide at all. Is this a concern, or will they break in once back on the car? Thanks for your help, Kevin.

Is there a way to remove the outer(?) rear wheel bearing that is pressed onto the shaft without destroying it? I'm refreshing my 280z's suspension and want to clean it and grease it again. I don't have a press, I went to a shop but they told me that if they took it out, it'll break.

Since the front wheel bearings are easier to repack with grease they tend to be greased much more frequently than rear wheel bearings, right? Do front wheel bearings tend to last a lot longer because of this indicating there might be wisdom in periodically re-greasing rear wheel bearings assuming there is a procedure for this? I have heard of a pin injector like used for putting air in basketballs that can be used for wheel bearings, don't know if that might work with an early Z.
