Using the Energy Suspension poly bushings (7-18102). Went to tighten down the sway bar end links but they didn't fit. The bolt would have to be about an inch longer. Not sure if the bushings are too big, the bold is too short, the spacer is too tall, or I just messed something up. I used the end link packet that did NOT have the square sway bar bushings (I assumed those were for the rear because nothing in the front has square bushings). Any help? Here is a picture of the car with the bolt nearly fully up AND the car on the ground.

I've never changed a rack and pinion rack bushings, but I'm pretty surprised how big the poly bushings are (Energy suspension 7-18102). I don't have a picture, but when I rest the clamps on top of the rack with bushings, the clamps are about 1cm away from touching the crossmember where the rack rests. So I guess I just have to torque down the clamps pretty hard? By the way, I made sure I had the thinner bushings on the driver's side and the thicker ones on the passenger side.

Hey Guys, Trying to go through my steering and replace most of the related bushings. I'm having troubles getting the tie rod ends removed from the steering arm/strut assembly. So far i've removed the cotter pin, and the castle nut and started hammering. I tap it with a hammer a little on the threaded portion (I do have new tie rod ends so not afraid of damaging these ones), I did get them to move a little, but i'm not sure where to go from here. The manuals are of no help to me, so the forum is my answer. Can I hit it harder? Should the rack be loosened from it's mounting before I do this? I don't want to damage anything obviously and i'm lost.

I think I need to replace my shock absorbers (strutz) on my 76 2+2. I purchased the car about 3 years ago and don't know anything about its history and maintenance. I see the bolts/nuts on the passenger side rear shock tower has a dabb of white paint on them which lines up so it doesn't look like they've ever been removed and these could be the original shock absorbers? Did the factory use paint during assembly or was this most likely done later by a mechanic? Also, when the OEM strutz go bad (eg, no oil left) can they get noisey? For example, when going down the road and I hit bumps, I seem to be getting a rumbling-type of noise from somewhere in the back end. Thanks Gar…

Seems like my car has gone old, it has started squealing from everywhere . This aint a problem in daily drive, it's just embarrasing when parking and leaving, happens in low speeds. Also like the other noise (from transmission/clutch) this is LOUD. Friend of mine suggested that it comes from bearing between spring dish and that rubber insulator, but it sounds like its coming from lower, area of ball joint. I greased practically everything i could see behind wheel (except brakes..) but the sound aint going away. https://www.dropbox.com/s/iid5qf9tq0r67hm/20140609_214601.mp4 to clarify that only comes from driver side

I was putting the splash pan back on the car and noticed a u-bolt fixed around the gear housing with an extension on the clasp that housed a rubber bumper at the end that sits up against the central suspension member (see arrow in pic). Anyone else have this and know its purpose? The car is Sept 1970 RHD 240z build and the front end has never been dismantled.

after having the pleasure of driving Cap'n O's Z, i was very jealous of his super precise steering. i had a bit of play in mine and was afraid i might need to tear into the rack - turns out it was all in the rack mount bushings. here are a couple of videos showing how much the rack moved - top one shot from under the car shows how the tie rods lifted ~1/2" and the bottom one shot from the engine bay shows the lateral movement. i had the car up on stands and was just moving the front wheel back and forth with my knee while filming got the $12 poly rack bushing kit from msa and it was installed in about an hour as follows: remove lock nuts and bolts from ra…

Forgive my ignorance, this is my first time ever owning a rack & pinion car so I'd like to be thorough. My '70 Z has a slight wobble in the steering from side to side about 1/4-1/2'' at low speeds. I haven't gotten it up past 20 mph yet, as I'm still doing some minor repair work before a hard shakedown run so I can't say how much better/worse it gets at different speeds. I've had my hands on every piece in the front end, ball joints, tie rods, control arms, etc etc. The only issues I ran into were sway bar mount bushings, and a slight looseness in the rack mount bushings. Since then I have replaced all those bushings with MSA supplied bushings. I have not had a ch…

Hi all - 72 240 with Eibach/Tokico setup. I am working on the full install, and now I am reading about bump steer spacers on blackdragon.com that are needed for lowered Z's. Does 1" count? Do I need these spacers? And lastly, does anyone else notice that the blackdragon catalog is the old MSA catalog?
