I just pulled the rear damper out of the upright shock tube on the driver side rear. (I'm struggling with the gland nut on the passenger side assembly but I'll get it). And the part number I find on the silver KYB damper is 361001 ODO7 (but that might be 0D07). I was curious if this part by it's numbering would be the (now 40 year old) shock the car originally came with. There are a few reasons that lead me to believe these are originals: 1. I replaced the spindle pins (along with bushings and other things) back in 2009JUN and they (the pins) seemed to have never been removed. 2. The rear springs seem to be pretty original now that I have them out and can see them. If you…

Does any one have any experiences with these two brands of strut cartridges my intended use for the car is just the occasional brisk drive through the hills and crusing around. Both brands are gas presurised. My car is an Aussie 260Z 1974 2seater 5spd manual {still pre - smog controls over here} . any opinions would be appreciated.

Hello to all. . . Can anyone clarify the difference between the red and yellow Koni struts. The yellows seen at Motorsport claim they were specially designed for S30 but I also see the red struts at other suppliers (Z car depot). Both are adjustable but the reds are more money so I'm wondering what the qualitative difference is between the two? Are they worth the additional outlay? Anybody know? Thx.

Hi all, I was reading the other thread on rear suspension rebuild and remembered that on the 71 240Z I had I replaced all 4 struts by compressing the springs and unbolting the top of the strut from the car. I didn't unbolt anything else. Then I pushed the strut down and swung the top of it outside the wheel well. I had to protect the wheel well lip by taping cardboard over it followed by taping sheet steel over that. Even though that worked two people would have been better as I wasn't strong enough to prevent the strut from contacting the wheel well lip though since it was protected there was no damage. Anyone else replace struts that way? Is that a bad idea as i…

So, I finally got around to stripping the front end. Balljoints fkd, tie rod ends, fkd. Every bushing, fkd. Left side pivot bolt came out clean , no damage to subframe Left side hardware all cleaned up left side spindle. Hub was loose - I was able to turn the nut almost a full flat. The bearings look OK though. So this time around I think I'll just clean & repack them Right side was a bitch. I had to cut the control arm pivot bolt off, it was seized inside the bushing sleeve, and has elongated the holes in the subframe I have a longer M14 bolt (probably off the X1/9, which wi…

Does anybody have any opinions on these? Tokico HPK Kit NISSAN 280Z. I'm thinking about buying some for my '77 and would like to hear from someone that has them. Thanks for any replies.

Has anyone tried the 2" lowering springs from Z Car Depot? Haven't been able to find any reviews for this product, but was considering the product for the additional 1" drop for my 280z since I will be taking the bumpers off later this year. https://zcardepot.com/products/coil-spring-set-stock-and-lowered-240z-260z-280z?variant=21397321449585¤cy=USD&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjwqJ_1BRBZEiwAv73uwHJmvt2Fqij6TJ1LuWyun2gwVYBJrjdV7AgPyqEAad1in6ueJQ8-YxoCiPMQAvD_BwE

72 240Z: Approximately 6 months ago I replaced the stock rear control arm bushings with MSA urethane bushings because the outer passenger side pivit was clunking when shifting and going over bumps. The clunking went away with the new urethane bushings. Now the rear passenger control arm is clunking again when shifting. At least I think that I have narrowed it down to the control arm bushings. Last weekend I installed a tight 3.54 R200 with urethane mustache bushings, checked the U-joints and tightened all of the suspension bolts during re-assembly. And still I get a loud clunk from the passenger side. I also checked the stub axle flange and it is tight. The stub axles ar…

It seems that my zed had suffered an accident in the rear right suspension. The car would sit about an inch lower on the rear right. After replacing the shock and coil, the problem was still present. So I purchased a rear right suspension unit(control arm, drum, and the whole deal). I removed the old suspension, then I proceeded in removing the spindle pin since the new control arm was not intact and was missing the spindle pin. I thought no big deal i'll just use the old one. Haha! that was way easier said than done. I couldn't get it out, so I had to go and purchase a new one from Motorsport. Putting it in was no easy feat either, The notch where the spindle pin lock sl…

Hey everybody! It's been a while. After just enjoying the Z for a couple of years, I'm finally ready to tear it apart again. At least the rear end. I just ordered a Suspension Techniques rear sway bar kit, and I'm thinking about strut/spring combos. I searched a bunch of posts, but couldn't really find anything for my specific situation. The existing setup is stock (original springs, no sway bar), but the struts aren't original (but not done by me either, so I don't know what they are, or how old). A lot of what I read said that the rear sway bar alone would make a huge difference, and doing stiffer springs and new struts may make the car too stiff. I drive it …

In the pics I've attached the one labelled 4spd is a B box on loan from fellow club member Victor Laury (thanks Victor), the tranny labelled 5spd is a gift from another club member (thanks sennavsprost) before he moved up to San Francisco. The thing about the 5spd I was given is that he thought it to be a T5 based on the "T5" stamp inside the bellhousing which I've enlarged for you all to see. What's weird though is that I had another club member send me photocopies of the tranny tear-down pages for an '81-'82 T5 FS5R90A and the illustrations don't match at all what I'm looking at it. I compared what I have here with the illustrations of the optional 5spd FS5C71A in bot…

I have a '72 with a very rough ride. It just does not make for a very pleasent drive, especially for the wife, when the car seems to take every bump as a major parking lot speed bump. All bushings had been replaced with a Susp. Tech. urethane kit and Tokico springs/shocks/struts within the last few years. Tires are Goodrich 14" T/A's. What first could be done (or at least looked at) to try and soften the stiff ride?
