Hi all; Questions about my 1974 260z race car... 1. 206z REAR BRACE PHOTO. When I decelerate quickly or when I shift gears, I hear a big metal-to-metal "clunk" sound that is clearly from the rear end of the car. I thought it was a drive shaft issue or perhaps a rear diff mount, but upon examination those seem secure. Please look at the rear frame bracket (first photo) that holds the rear end to the frame. The joint holding that piece to the frame is circled in red. Note that the photo was taken with the car on a lift, so the suspension is relaxed and extended. Is there a name for this bracket? Is there perhaps a gasket here that could be worn or missing? Could tha…

Hey everyone, I'm getting a semi-serious cage and front strut-tower-to-firewall brace made for my Z this winter. I also got Bad Dog front subframe sway-bar plates and jack plates. My question is, are their two-piece subframe kits meant to be welded "over" top of of the factory rails and connect in the middle under the car? Or do you cut the factory subframe rails and weld these in place? I know it sounds stupid but I dont know and can't decide if I should get those, order the expensive ones from Datsunstore.com or what. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would just like someone to confirm that Toe in is the only adjustment I can make on an early stock 240Z. Just putting the whole car back together. Thanks, Chris

Engine is out, bay is pretty naked, fenders off, and I'm pre-repaint. I have the urethane bushing kit and plan on getting Eibach lowering springs and Tokico Blues. What bushings should I install before repainting the bay and putting everything back in? And, would it make the job considerably easier to do struts/springs while the engine is out as well? Thanks, Kai

So my car was making a strange noise when moving slowly, and turning sharply.. Like when pulling out of a parking space, for example. I investigated and found this: Looks like the right-front T/C rod or bushing? I'll have shop time to fix it Monday. Do you think the bushing is just bad, or does the whole thing need to be replaced?

You guys helped me out yesterday on clutch recommendations so here's another question. 1972 240 Z I replaced the badly worn radius rod bushings (strut rod) according to the service manual. The problem is that when torqued to the specified limit (40 ft lbs), the well beyond the edges of the the big washers that hold them in place. In my experience, rubber bushings normally should be tightened until they just bulge to the edge of the washer or so. These do have a steel sleeve inside that goes through the frame and (I assume) acts as a seat or stop for the big washers. Should these bushings be squished out of shape like that? The bushings are made in Japan by Beck-Arnley. …

I thought for sure that my car had stock springs but tonight I was sandblasting and found blue paint under the rust and crud. I was expecting simple black paint or plain e-coat. The blue blasts off easily and there is a very tough black layer underneath. The car is almost completely original; I bought it from its first owner who kept everything from the original worn out tires when he replaced them, to the original sealed beams when he had the car painted. So I was expecting stock springs. The car did have Koni inserts installed in 1975, so perhaps new springs were installed along with the gas shocks? Does anyone recognize these? They look pretty similar to Jetaway's spr…

I know this isn't the first squeaking urethane bushing thread but I do have a question. I have the black bushing that were purchased many years ago, but don't have many miles. They squeak bad- especially the rear arms. I have tried re lubeing them, but they start squeaking again after a while Did they make black ones that were not graphite impregnated? How do you tell if you do or don't have them?

If I already have my struts sectioned and I am running Tokiko non adjustable inserts, can I just pull those out and put in Illumina's for a refresh? I am curious as to if the sectioning portion is the same or if the illuminas requied a different length strut tube? Thanks, I was digging through my old records and found out my struts were sectioned and Tokiko inserts were installed in 1991. I was graduating high school

I am considering putting strut bars on my '70. MSA's front strut bar is priced at $110. I had one of those on my '71 and thought it worked ok. They also list a Cusco strut bar for $215. Has anybody had experience with the Cusco bar? Do they work any better than the MSA bar to justify the extra $100?? Thanks, Marty

Last week I was driving my '73 and I began hearing a strong clunking noise in the rear when I went over bumps. I have a 7/8" swaybar attached at the factory mounts-or at least I did. The mounts tore off the body, allowing bar to smack against it... Fortunately, this occurred on the EXACT DAY that I had a lift installed in my shop so working under the car is now very easy. The metal that I cut out was not rusted at all-in fact the undercoating took a bit of upbrading with the wire brush to get off My plan is to replace the torn metal and then weld in an additional channel to wrap the rail and distribute the load over a greater area. I'm posting this because those…
