I had done some searching for emergency brake repairs and where to go from here. I had a broken parking brake on a 240z. I took the idea that Beandip had and went with that. I went to Home Depot and bought about 8' of 1/8" unjacketed and 3/32 jacketed cable. I also bought some 1/" tee nuts like these The problem I saw was not replacing the cable but was how to swage the end with the little cylindrical shape and make it hold. I removed the old cable and rethreaded with new cable. I chose to use the unjacketed cable because it was thicker and the exisitng cable was unjacketed. I then placed a tee nut over the end of the cable with the spiked flange at the very end (the …

Here's my first request for help on my new-to-me, single owner '73! Here's the car as it sits It's up like that because this happened to one of the roughly 25 year old tires The car has only 63k miles, but like any 40 year old all-original vehicle, it does not drive particularly well. I've been doing a lot of reading on the common issues, of which I have many. One that I'd like to fix right away is a pretty violent shaking in the front end and steering wheel when I hit bumps. From what I've learned here, it sounds as though the front tension/compression rods are the culprit. The bushings are definitely worn and cracked. I'll post pics of those tonight. So I have th…

Can anyone confirm the differential model that I just pulled from my Z? Seems like an open R200, but I'm not 100% certain. I have to replace the cover gasket on it. I'll be replacing the oil, changing the gasket and cleaning/painting the casing. Anything else I should do while it's off the car?

Preface: After firing up my high(er) compression L29 with triple SKs, I was so eager to go for a ride that I made it 2.5 miles before realizing I had drained the diff fluid while the motor was being built at the race shop. Luckily, I have an extremely clean open R180 with 4.11 gears that I found from a guy with a source at salvage lots. I've read many threads and have searched multiple forums. The FSM seems to say to drop/swap the differential on the ground using jack stands, doesn't it? I have access to a car lift on base at the self-help garage. Will this make the process any easier? I can also use the lift with the built in transmission jack if needed. Are there…

I'm currently rebuilding/cleaning my suspension and have removed all 4 struts and separated them from the coil springs. From what I can see the struts are OEM. I can press the "shiny" part of the strut back into it's housing on 3 of the struts. The 4th one, I can push back in with my force, but it keeps coming back out again by itself over the course of a few seconds. What is the "normal" behavior of the struts once removed? Should I bother to open them up and replace the oil? The 2 front ones had slightly torn shock boots which I will be replacing and a bit of red-ish liquid in them if that matters.

So I've noticed for some time now that there seems to be some noticeable toe in on my S30 and am wondering if that is normal for S30's or not. It looks like that specific wheel is not centered, I have seen many S30's with this same problem. Is this a normal occurrence? Any idea what causes it?

I had some Eibachs installed today and after I got it back, I noticed that one of the rear springs was installed upside down. The lettering is upside down, luckily the rears were installed in the right place. I wanted to see if I should make a big deal about it. Is there any difference. Figured if it fit, it will probably be same either way. From what I can see, the top part, the notch lines up with the end of the spring.

Can anyone give me an idea what a fair labor cost will be to replace the struts on my 1972 240z? Also,..is this a repair that any standard reair shop should be able to perform, (Firestone, Big 10 Tires, etc)?
