I'm tracking down sources of rear end noise in my early '74 260Z. So far I identified a loose stabilization bar link. I also noticed while the car is in motion that the threaded rod protruding out of the top of the right rear strut has some minor movement associated with it while the driver's side one does not move. The three bolts securing the top of the strut are properly tightened. As far as I can tell, the strut's upper end is held in place under spring tension. Is there anything I can (or should) do to keep it from moving around? Note that the struts and springs were replaced not too long ago but by the same monkey that was riding around in the trunk.

Every time someone starts a topic on modifying their suspension, there always seems to be a difference of opinion regarding whether they should use polyurethane or rubber bushings. I don't want that discussion here. My interest is whether anyone knows of the technical differences between Prothane and Hyperflex bushings. Prothane is manufactured by Dee Engineering of Ontario, CA and Hyperflex by Energy Suspension of San Clemente, CA. I'll mention that I'm a retired research chemist who worked with polyurethane materials for a good portion of my career. I know the materials that can be used to make these items -- and there are many -- and how each one affects the f…

As I resigned myself that I can no longer put off attacking the spindle pins, I came across a tool that I hope will alleviate some of the pain. It's an inductive heater, and I also purchased some longer elements that I believe will allow me to wrap around the control arm. I need to order the spindle pins from MSA today. I get to use the gift certificate I won at ZCON courtesy of @wal280z providing me with his raffle tickets. By the way, Wayne, I will probably repurpose the Amazon box for the heater to pack your backpack and ZCON goodies.

Hi Guys, So my next big project is cleaning and rebuilding suspension steering. Everything from shocks (I assume springs just need blasting...) bushing, tie rods. Does 280z have a rack in the front? I am not looking for anything expensive and trying to stay close to OEM specs so not looking for super expensive rebuild kit. I have also heard that rubber is better than polyuth as i don't drive aggressive. Would appreciate you guys sharing details what you have done and where/what to buy.

Could someone please give me more info on where (pic), if possible, where the clamp goes. It mentions a rubber part in the other threads. What does that look like and where does that go. thank you.

I'm working on a customer's 260Z (1974 narrow bumper/earlier VIN). The car was brought to me after it was worked on by 2-3 other shops who couldn't solve the problem, finally throwing in the towel and giving up. I'm determined to solve this issue for my customer. When the car is driven over a tar strip or road reflector there's a very loud, disturbing banging noise. The sound is definately in the rear, and happens whether it's the left or right tire that rolls over the bump. The car has a pair of recently installed KYB strut inserts and all new bushings through out the suspension, but the problem is no better than before being installed. Car also has a brand n…

Some time this year, I want to replace the struts and springs on the 240Z. I have the struts, but I need to decide whether to use the Chevette springs I have on hand or go with the ZCarSource springs. Anyway, I have used the tongue & groove pliers (aka Channel Locks) on the 260Z gland nuts in the past, and I noticed that ZCarDepot came out with a gland nut wrench. However, me being me, I wanted to see what else I could find. I tried to find an octagonal socket, but no one seems to have a 2 inch octagonal socket. They are either much too large or much too small. Then I was doing some other tool searching and came across a 2" crow's foot. It was only about $20, so I pul…
