For those of you that stuck with me through my rear suspension rebuild, I have rolled right into the front end and this will be the thread. I would like to think that I am getting much better at this, but I'm not sure if that is the truth or not. The front end came apart much easier than the rear end. Tasks accomplished today are: Removal of front struts, removal of front hubs and wheel bearings, removal of all brake components, removal of rack and pinion, and removal of the front anti-sway bar. The objectives are: To rebuild the rack and pinion - it's stiff. To replace the wheel bearings and ball joints. To replace the anti-sway bar with a thicker one. To re…

I'm gonna chance this thread on this forum and see what you guys think. I know it's more of a hybridZ question, but I wouldn't mind other perspective, too. I'm doing an LS1 conversion and want to reinforce the frame pretty darn well to handle the torque. I'm thinking of going with a supercharger or moderate NA build. Either way would like close to 400 to the rear wheels. Not hard to do with an LS1 engine. What do you guys recommend for frame reinforcements? A quick search revealed the bad dog options, but I'm thinking of picking up the steel myself and custom welding it in. How does this effect eligibility for competition racing? Anyone have good links or ideas? …

I have Euro springs that are ten years old with one year old Tokico struts and the tires are starting to rub? Is it time to replace the springs? if so what should I use for a daily driver?

Gentlemen: Is there a schematic somewhere indicating bolt sizes associated with the steering rack. I searched the archive, but I am having some technical difficulties with the forum and my computer keeps locking up. Specifically I need to know what the size, pitch and class of the nuts are that lock the tie rod ends.

Swapped out my stock springs for Eibach Progressives. Left the KYB inserts alone as they had less than 20K miles on them. The springs did drop my car the advertised amount (1 1/4 inches) but now one side of the rear of the car sits at least an inch lower than the other. The fronts measure the same. My ride has gone south and feels like I am getting irregular bouncing when going over bumps. I have two questions. Is it possible that I blew out one of my rear strut inserts with the Eibachs and that's why one side is sitting lower than the other? Could one blown out insert make the car bounce as much as I am experiencing? I know about the supposed incompatibility for Eibach …

I was planning to wait until I had more done to start this thread, but what the heck... Here's what I am starting with. It is a '76 280z. Completely stock and road worthy. It feels every bit it's age. The intention of this restoration is to replace the bushings, springs, struts, sway bar and rear brakes. I will be lowering the car 1" and will also add a strut tower. When I'm done with all of my work (which will include the front end and motor) I want a classic with modern performance that I can take to the track once or twice a year (just for fun). Here are the parts (front struts arrived later): Before disassembly: and after (see the spray can of penetrat…

My 240Z has been lowered by p/o with Tokico illuminas shocks and 180-190lbs springs, great handling but brutally hard on my old injured back. I would like to keep the lowered stance but get a softer ride. The guy at a local Z specialty shop recommended doing coil overs (to keep the lowered stance) but use softer 140-150lb springs to soften up the ride. Does that sound like a good plan? Thanks, Chris

1976 280z Automatic About 18 months ago, I replaced all the rubber suspension bushings with urethane bushings underneath my car. This included the mustache bar bushings. Since that time I have had a lot of rear end whine, which I did not have before. I have read several comments from people that have had the same experience going from rubber to urethane. Thus, I have decided to go back to rubber on my mustache bar. I am having trouble remembering the exact setup that was used for the rubber bushings. I know there was the rubber bushing that goes in the end of the mustache bar. Does it go in a certain way? I also can't remember how the serrated/alagator bushings were arran…

I am currently running tokiko springs and tokiko non adjustable struts. I am happy with my ride height, and I am happy with my springs ability to keep the car from bottoming out 9on my 1000 mile rally. However, my tokiko struts are over 14 years old and I would like to be able to dial in different settings for cruising or vintage rallying, or track days. Since my struts have already been sectioned for the tokikos, I am thinking a set of illumina's would be a straight drop in replacement. Let me know if this is right. Also, it would be a great time to put new rubber top hats on the spring perches. You guys were right, nothing like pounding a car for 1000 miles to kno…
