After successfully doing a full fuel system rehab, carb and ignition tune up, oil pan gasket replacement, driver seat recover, and a host of other misc. tasks I am now diving in to the suspension system and brakes on my ’72 240z. I pulled the wheels off to inspect the brakes and found not only old cracking brake hoses but also bushings that were shot and ball joints that had lost their dust covers and exposed to the elements for a long time. Seeing that this not only significantly degrades performance but also poses a large safety concern I have decided to invest in the car and pretty much reach the point of no return with a full on suspension and brake rebuild & …

I am doing my dead level best to make my Early 260 into a boulevard cruiser. It is a hybrid, with a mild, 350-350 chev, I have queit matted, 4 mufflers, two glass paks up front and two turbos out the rear with 2 1/2 pipes and a X pipe. Drone is manageble. Driveshaft is aligned. (major good! vibe stopper) All wheel bearings disassembled and greased, with new parts as needed. new rubber (stock) suspension parts, No Urethane anywhere, and all parts replaced. New tie rod ends, ball joints, complete brakes with new rotors, shoes, etc. This car is pretty smooth. BUT! it still has an anoying vibration that you can primarily just feel in your arse, or through the seat. I pulled …

I can see from other members pictures that most of us seem to have what looks like an exhaust clamp on the driver side of our steering racks near the mount. What I cannot figure out is what is the point of it? Its not holding anything in place nor is it butted up against the mount. I removed mine when I replaced my oil pan gasket and have not put it back on yet. Before I do I would like to know if I really need it.

Just bought my first 240z, 1971 series I with 167K miles on original engine. First look shows the front end sitting high. Measuring heights at the center of the bumpers show the front about 1.5" high. Struts still dampen without overshoot. My first plan of action is to replace suspension bushings as the old ones are hard as a rock and cracked. While I have some maintenance records, I haven't found any records on servicing the struts. Any suggestions on how to restore the original height?

I have a 1971 Datsun 240 Z. I have just installed new tires and had the alignment checked on the car. The mechanic says that the front end is out of alignment and that seems to be repairable. The problem seems that the rear end is also out of alignment. There does not appear to be any way to adjust the rear wheels. I suspect that this was not an issue in the 70's but I am not sure about that. Does anyone know of any way to correct the rear end alignment? Thanks for any help with this.

Please advise me where to find rubber bushings and spindle pins for the rear of a 78/280z. I have read that poly bushings will cause a harsh ride and am wanting to go back original. Any advice is appreciated JB

Hi, This about a '73 240Z....I'm getting a vibration that feels like it's coming from the right rear. It occurs at higher speeds (hwy) and, it's somewhat, violent in nature. This seems to have occurred "over night", as the previous outing was vibration free. I've jacked the rear and probed and prodded different suspension components including the universals. Not finding any apparent "loose" joints etc., now, I'm thinking the tire may have "thrown" a balance weight, or RR shock gave up? Any other thoughts? Also, are the outer hub (rear) bearings service-able, that is, can be lubed? Thanks for any ideas.

When i go over the little reflectors on the road moving into the left lane the back left side always has a sort of popping sound, almost like metal hitting metal, or if the strut was dead... I replaced the struts and still have the same sound, any thoughts on what it could be?
