This is the first car I have really worked on, so I'm doing a suspension "refresh" one corner at a time on my 1975 280Z. I noticed what appeared to a dent on the driver's side real lower control arm. Now that I have the passenger side out, I see practically the exact same thing on this one. The FSM does not show it, but of I see one in the Z Therapy suspension bushing replacement DVD. Is that supposed to be there?

Hey everyone, I have been working on replacing my rear wheel bearings for some time now. Got the new bearings and seals in no problem, today brought my Snap-on 1/2 inch torque wrench from work home for the lock nuts. First nut I tried to torque snapped the stub axle off in it when trying to go to 200 ft/lbs. how the heck? I decided to torque the other side with less ft/lbs. and stopped at 170. Anyone else know what happened, torque wrench malfunction? Bryce

I'm going to replace my Eibach springs with a set of European springs that I bought years ago. Since my primary goal is to improve the ride, I suspect that the KYB GR-2 shocks are a bigger factor. I've read other threads that suggest illuminas and koni adjustable shocks are pretty stiff even on their lowest settings. Any recommendations for less firm shocks?

Finally I'm down to 3 bags of bushings. The best help tool was a small bottle jack, by the way. My question regards the front control arms and the rear control arms as well as the 4 bump stops, that's the 3 bags left. I will be replacing my stuts after I get all this other stuff done, probably next year. Won't I have to disassemble the control arms when replacing the struts? And don't these bump stops go at the top of my struts? I'm so sick of that silicone like grease I want to wait until the strut job to finish with the bushings. Thanks for any replies. Cliff

Along with replacing all the front end bushings during my most recent project, I decided, with much trepedation, to dissemble the steering rack. My fear was that given that I have a great talent for dropping and never being able to find small parts that a bearing or shim or a whatever, a whatever that if available at all would cost in excess of an arm and a leg, would "clink" and promptly run away and hide in the secret nest where all my other dropped parts are hanging out, drinking beer, and having a good laugh at my expense. To my relief, nothing tried to escape and the procedure was considerably less complex than I had anticipated. The FSM recommends dissembling, clea…

Is anyone using Tokico 5022 springs on their 280Z? And would they have a picture or an estimate of how the tires sit in the wheel wells (equal distance around the tire, or thin/thick at the top)? I posted this question over on Hybridz also, but there's a lot more coilovers over there. One response so far, from John Coffey (thanks John). I've seen 280Zs that sit high in the back, like a 78 parts car I had, and seen them that sit lower like my 76 280Z did. So I don't know what a 1" drop will look like.

OK I rebuilt the front end of my 78 280z and all went great but after a week or so had a bad nose in the front end when backing up. So look under the car and one of the front tension rod was loose and lost the nut and washers. My bad for not tying the nut up. Any one got one off a parts car?

Happy New Year Zcar-ers! My 1972 recently developed steering wheel shake, its way of telling me its time to work on the front suspension. Since it's going to be dissembled anyway, I've decided to: 1) replace all the bushings and: 2) replace the struts. There is, of course, a possible complication. I sure hope not, but I'm pretty sure the coils aren't stock. The attached photo is from the left front suspension. There is no compression on the spring when unweighted. It turns easily in the holders, though it won't quite rotate 360 degrees. Maybe it would if I tried harder, but that seems like a pointless exercise. I'm not quite sure how to count the turns, the sp…

Im a complete and total git. Im changing my original 40 year old struts to new: I removed the 3 bolts holding the strut assembly on car, and without thinking i removed the strut bolt. Maybe the beers had something to do with it.. Well no damage done, i got jack under the strut assembly, only that the spring is now decompressed. Now that everything else is removed and loose, the spindle pin is on my way..should i even try to remove it or should i just remove the whole assembly as one? :stupid::stupid:
