I am looking to have my strut tubes, control arms, backing plates, t/c rods, idler arms, calipers, drums etc, powder coated. To do all 4 corners is this a $200 job or $1,000 job? Any input from those who have had it done is appreciated. I am looking at a metallic silver for the strut tubes, control arms, calipers, drums and rods and gloss black for all other parts. I also want whoever does this to strip the 34 year old parts of all rust down to clean metal.

installing the delrin/aluminum/rubber bushing kit for the tension rods. everything fits well, but does anyone have a hint on installing the black boots that are supplied? do they just fit flush 'into' the cups attached to the frame? i would think they are supposed to fit over the cups to help seal the assembly and prevent dirt/water from entering and prematurely wearing the delrin. if this is true, any tips to getting the edge of the boot over the cup since it's pretty tight in there (heat until more pliable, maybe). thanks

I've been rebuilding a 78 280Z for about 18 months. Way too invested at this point to worry a great deal about cost but I'm not particularly interested in wasting money. The rubber bushings were completely gone so while I was replacing the bushings, I broke down the strut assembly for rehab. My intent was to replace the strut and probably the springs which I was reasonably sure had neither ever been replaced. I was surprised to find KYB 361002's in what appear to be good condition as the struts. Springs are stock and most likely original. I never really got to drive the car much after purchase and before engine failure so I didn't get to test anything or really feel it ou…

The bolt/stud coming out of the passenger side tie rod turns freely. The other one doesn't. Would that mean it's gone bad? turning like that? Probably should replace both sides at the same time? They're not very exspensive from rockauto.com. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've seen it in passing in various threads on a couple forums, but I want to ask this group to be certain. Are the factory LCA's from a 280z interchangeable with those of a 240z? Thanks

Im re-assembling my front suspension, and replacing the old rubber bushings with the urethane kit from MSA. The bushings that go with the tension rods, seem to be too thick. By the time the rod goes through the hole in the frame with a bushing, and stock washer on each side, there isnt any room for the washer to start threading. There is an indentation in the middle of the bushing that i thought could be a spot to cut it in half. Good or bad idea? Has anyone run into this issue? Thanks guys.

My z, and many others I've seen, has both her rear wheels sitting noticably forward in their wells. The suspension is 40 years old, so it's likely due to all those bushings and rubber parts being way past their useful lifespan, but does anyone have specifics?

I noticed that my car tends to come very close to lifting the inside front wheel in a corner on the track. I assume this is a symptom of something being off in my alignment or suspension geometry. Anyone dealt with this before in a 240Z?

I am trying to sort out my newly acquired 240Z. I have a long list of issues, concerns and problems. I'm up to he steering. The steering is So stiff on this car. In fact, I recently got it running really well and decided to drive it around a little this weekend. The steering is SO stiff that after simply manuvering it in and out of my garage, turning around in my drive way a few times and some local driving, (no more than 10 miles),..my hands and wrist are so sore this morning I may have trouble working today. It takes all you can muster up to turn the steering wheel on this car. What can cause this and what do I need to do to remedy the situation?

Question for the experts: When I rebuild the front end on my very early 240Z (11/69), it is my understanding that the ball joints that fit the early knuckle arms are NLA, and that I have to either ream out the existing arms, or replace them to use available joints. Now, I have a '78 280Z parts car sitting here in the garage to use as I want - can I just take the arms from it and bolt them onto my 240Z struts? Is that all that is really required? Thanks!
