LeonV: Thanks for the formula, though I'm not sure how to count spring turns. So, I spread and came up with estimates of 140 lbs (if 9 turns) to 197 lbs (if 7 turns). John Coffey: I took your advice into consideration and remeasured. By now I had everything disconnected (last time the steering knuckle was still attached). I used wedges under the scale, the wood platform (used to spread out the force) and the bottle jack until I had the jack's piston movement lined up exactly with the struts stroke. I taped up my scale and marked 1, 1 and 1/2 and 2 inches of spring compression. The scale is auto-on and auto-off once it has a stable weight, so I couldn't stop and note…

75 280Z, I put in new tie rod ends, ball joints and urethane bushings. Now when I turn the steering wheel (car off the ground) I hear a weird groaning type sound and a click at the beginning and end of travel. The groining sound is present thru out travel. Any ideas?

I want new rubber bushings on my car while the motors out. Do you all use Energy Suspension, Hyper-Flex? It's the most complete and most reasonably priced I've found, http://www.sparktecmotorsports.com/es-7-18102.html, experience, advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ahead. Cliff.

Hello! I have searched this forum and other forums for answers, but i still have some questions about which coilover kit to go with. I am currently looking at this kit fm MSA: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PSDC14/23-4123 Does anyone have these on their 240z?. If so, what is involved in actually installing these on the car? I would like to get a kit that is as close to "bolt on" as I can. I dont want to cut up my towers so i would have to get the EMI/ biscuit type camber plates. from looking around it seems like the kit from Beta motorsports is the way to go. Does anyone have any experience with that kit? Anyway, I would really appreciate any input you guys hav…

I have a 72 240z and I really want it to look nice and low. I know that Ground Control Coilovers work real nice, but they aren't in my budget. What are any alternatives to making my car as low as possible? What lowering springs/kit would look best and would getting smaller rims/wheels and tire profile reduce the ride height as well? I will be putting on ZG fender flares on and I want the wheels to look tucked in. I also plan on getting Konig Rewinds. So what do you think would make them look best on my car? .

I've read all the comments about worn out parts causing the rear clunk but mine is just the opposite. I have a 1978 280Z that made no rear clunking noise what so ever with the old rubber bushings. I just replaced the mustache bar, inner control arm and sway bar bushings with energy suspension poly and now when getting on and off the clutch I get the clunking. I used lots of grease and I torqued all the bushings down to spec. When I dropped my diff down, I did notice a piece of thick rubber fell off the top of the diff ander the arrestor strap. I put it back in where I thought it should go. Is this a factory piece (it looks kind of like a piece of tire rubber) or did a pre…

Anyone know the height of stock springs off the strut housings. Mine are about 11 inches in back and maybe 12 inches in front. Does this sound to be stock? Here's a crappy cell phone pic of the rear spring. Brian

Im geting ready to replace struts on my 240 and wonder if my springs are worn out. Everyone talks about spring compressors but I can easily get my springs off without a compressor. I just hold a little pressure on spring and have someone take the nut off and thats it. Does this indicate worn out springs or is this normal? Also when the car is on jackstands and the suspension is on, the spring can be turn to seat it properly in strut housing. Im putting KYB struts on. Brian

I just installed a set of Tokico 5020F Coil Springs and the attached pic is of the front driver's side installed on my 73 240Z. This doesn't look right to me, as I thought there should be more travel than this. Does this look correct? Any clarification with this would be much appreciated. Thanks, Richard

For those who are wanting to add power steering to their car, I just saw a review of a potential source on Jay Leno's garage: http://www.americanonlineimports.com/index.html I have no idea if this would work on a Datsun. I have no interest in this my self, and don't plan (or see the need) to add power steering to my car. But I thought of all the discussion and debate that has occurred here over the years and thought it might be worth looking into if you are interested in adding power steering.

Hello! Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 240, the 260 and the 280 front cross member and control arms? I am doing a full restore and I need one (mine is bent) but all I can find are ones out of 280s. I have a 240 and I am sure they can bolt up but the part numbers are different and I would rather have what was on the car. Any info is more then what I have now! Thanks! polecat
