Ok,..I recently purchased a 1972 240Z that has been sitting for several years w/o running. I've got it up and running great, except I have a hard "clunk" at shift points coming from the right rear. Would this most likely just be a bad U-Joint on the axle or could it possibly be the differential mounts? Any help would be appreciated, Danny

I am rebuilding the front hubs of my 72 240Z with new bearings and bearing races. The new bearings I purchased from a local car parts store sold me a set packaged by federal-mogul and made in Japan. After cleaning the preservative grease, the bearings rattled way too much when moved by hand up and down, sideways and when spinning by hand. I know that when loaded with grease all of this excess movement ceases, but with use, heat will leak the grease out of the bearings creating major wear. Is there recommendid brand where movement is not so sloppy and where to buy them? I prefer Timkin bearings but where to get them for our cars? V/r Ed

My wife and I decided to enjoy a perfect autumn day yesterday and we drove the 240Z down to New Hope PA for lunch. As I was pulling into a parking lot I heard something hit the ground and drag. As I turned the wheel in the opposite to get into a parking spot I heard a loud THUNK. I knew something just broke. Sure enough, when my wife got out of the car she said, "I think you lost a shock". "Not possible" I told her. And when I looked at the ground behind the car I found this: I saw this attached to the car when I first got it and tried to research it's origins. I can't find it in the FSM, as an accessory or on the Fiche. It appeared to be a steering damper, attached …

I need to replace the rubber boots on both sides of my steering rack. From what I've researched so far, it appears that I need to separate the tie rods from the steering knuckles and then unscrew the tie rod from the rack. The problem is how to separate the tie rod from the the knuckle arm without damaging the ball joint. As I understand it, if I damage the ball joint, these are NLA and I've then got to replace the knuckles with a later version. I did some research in old posts, and it appears I may can find the early version ball joints, but before I ordered them, I thought I would seek advice from the board to see if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to do this…

I want to tighten up the road manners of the 280. I think I am going to start with putting in all new urethane black energy suspension bushings. While I am doing this I plan on media blasting all the control arms and anything else I can get off the car and repainting them. What advice could you all give me? Should I start with the front or rear? Any particular bolts/bushings, etc. that will be a real pain in the arse to remove? Any special tools? I have the best Ingersoll Rand air impact money can buy 780 ft/lbs. reverse. How much time should I allow to do this? Thanks guys!

Hi everybody, My name is Richard and for 25 years I've wanted a Zcar, My brother in law had one, that he let me take for a spin and I fell in love, I'm finally in a spot in my life to work on one. I like to fix things myself but doing body work is not a strong point of mine. I rebuilt a 1988 blazer from ground up about 6 years ago with some help from a friend that worked in a body shop for 25 years. Now I've had my buddy look at this 1976 280z and he said that it could be fixed but would require some new frame rails and some sub frame work. I'm going into this with both eyes open as a full restoration and have even looked at finding a rotisserie. I want a car that is sto…

I searched to see if I could find an answer but was unsuccessful. I removed my half shafts to have new Spicer u-joints installed. Was an easy removal, but I failed to mark the shafts to make sure I reinstalled them at the same location on each side. Is there any special way that they install? Will I be able to tell how they line up without marking them prior? Wish I had paid better attention to this, but I did not!

Has anyone ever cahnged the ball joints themselves on 71 240Z? can you guys tell me if this is a doable job for a guy just under his car in his garage or does it need to be lifted and such. I am changing the ball joints because I am having control issues when going on tight turns, even at low speed, there is a shimmy or slight wobble in the front end and controling it is hard. The tires are pretty shot but i feel it is a type of suspension problem. I have changed the bushing with energy suspension urothane ones on the sway bar and rack, Along with a rebuilt rack and pinion, these helped but didn't solve the problem.. Anyone know what the problem is? and if it is the ball …
