Ok so I am stumped on this one I have a bad creaking and groaning at low speeds when the right (passenger) rear suspension is unloaded and loaded. So far we have checked over all the bushing and they were replaced within the past 2 years from the paper work. They also all look new and the bolts are all marked was done professionally at Z Car Garage in San Jose by previous owner. We have replaced the rear wheel bearing and stub axle+lugs, repacked and torqued lock nut (280zx without peening) to 200ft/lbs. It was a PITA to get the old lock nut loose. We also did the u-joint in the half shaft. The only thing I can think of is something in the shock/spring. I was thinking of …

My dad and I have been talking about lowering my car for some time now and I figure something something like this might be a good x-mas idea. Any how, I've been trying to read up on what I can about lowering springs and it seems like the Eibach's have gottan pretty good reviews from what I've read and seems to be the choice of what most people choose for a lowering kit. I was curious how these compare to some of the other lowering springs out there such as Tokico and European lowering springs? Which brand(s) works best with the stock shocks of the car? From what I've read atleaste, it sounds to me like the Eibach's are the way to go for a lowering kit, but mainly first w…

I recently gave myself a set of KYB shocks for Christmas. My 78Z currently has stock springs, but I recently saw a set of used Arizona Z Car springs for sale and was considering installing them along with the KYBs. So I started searching, but didn't find anything about this combo in an otherwise stock 280. Lots of folks commented about them with regard to the 240s, but not the 280s. Their website says these springs will lower the 280 1.5 inches. So my question is will the KYBs work OK with the AZ springs on a 280? My car is a weekend, fair-weather-only driver. Never raced, but wouldn't mind a slightly "sportier" ride over stock. Will also be installing urethane bushi…

I've been chasing a rattle in the rear of my 72 (auto) car coming from the strut tower area. After tearing it down last night thinking the insulator was bad (I could see chunks of rubber missing) I discovered the nut in the tube that holds the strut cartridge in place was loose allowing perhaps 3/8 inch of cartridge travel. So, fixed that. I had an insulator from a 280 parts car I had intended to use and discovered the 240 has a rubber puck whereas the 280 has a bearing. I am guessing the bearing was a later evolution and therefore a better idea? I could see no reason at all not to put the rubber puck back in, so I put the bearing in. Any reason not to have done so?

I bought a pair of rear struts for my 280z from the local autozone (Sachs) but they don't have the spring perches. I've not removed my old struts yet, but the perches look like part of the strut and not moveable. Am I missing something? Do the Tokico HP struts (HZ3012/HZ3013) come with the perches in place? If so, I'll return what I have to AutoZone, and order some of them. Thanks, Geof

Just had NTB check the alignment this afternoon on my '78. The front looks great, only required a minor adjustment to the passenger side toe. However, the rear wheels are a bit out of spec. I know there's no factory adjustment for the rear, and from what I understand the only adjustment possible is a camber kit. Following are the specs on my rear wheels. Can any of you tire/suspension gurus interpret and/or comment on them? Rear left: Camber: -0.3 Specified Range: -0.1 to 1.5 Toe: 0.44 Specified Range: -0.22 to 0.22 Rear right: Camber: -0.4 Specified Range: -0.1 to 1.5 Toe: 0.24 Specified Range: -0.22 to 0.22 Cross camber: 0.1 Total toe: 0.68 Specified Ran…

I wonder if any of you guys ever tried this kit before? It's been sold in Japan in last 5 years or so. This electric power steering kit bolts right on. I heard that there is no cutting or welding required. Price is around $600 over there. Esprist

I got the toe set on my 72 earlier this summer and was told my rear end was way out of spec. How bad are the following results? It drives fine on the highway and doesn't visibly dog track with the thrust angle differance. I am still running 14" tires so replacement costs arent a big deal at the moment. Also, I seriously doubt if I will put more than a few thousand on them in a year. Thanks Left Front /Right Front Camber -.4 / -1. Caster 2.6 / 3.1 Toe .12 / .16 left Rear / Right Rear Camber -.8 /-1.1 Toe .13 /.47 Total Toe .6 Thrust Angle -.17
