Hi guys! I`ve never used any kind of coil spring compressor to change a strut(I believe i have the STOCK Springs). I always "asked" someone else to just tie clothsline wire 90 Degrees from each other along the length of the coilspring while the weight of the car was on the coilsprings (macpherson struts in my case). So i end up with a (UNSAFE) "compressor" of sorts that i just cut away at when the macpherson strut is already installed in the car. Finally i`m getting a cheap Macpherson strut compressor (the one with 2 Threaded rods and their mating clamp/hooks and nuts you turn w/ a wrench). So whats the right LENGTH of compressor to buy? I as…

HI ALL! I was referred to a TOE-IN Calculator (converts TOE inches to TOE degrees) at HybridZ.org. I was required to plug in the ff: Tire width, Tire profile, Wheel diameter and of course the TOE inches i wanted converted to degrees. My question then is: Does this mean that the FACTORY (Stock) alignment values (Toe in this case) for a stock 240Z with the stock sized rim-tires (obviously) apply to a differently sized rim-tire combo (in my case, 15" rims w/ 205/55 tires)? This is not for racing applications, but for everyday driving. THANKYOU! patrick

Ok, to all you math wizzards out there, i dont have the time to do the math on Converting TOE alignment in mm./inches to DEGREES(and i am poor at trig). I just came from the neighborhood alignment shop, and they can only do my TOE in DEGREES, NOT mm. or inches! So anybody know the 240Z TOE specs in DEGREES for Front and Rear? THANK YOU! patrick 1973 240Z

Hi ALL! I cant seem to find this part in the FSM or the HAYNES. After (finally) putting in the REAR INNER transverse link bushings i noticed that one transverse link bolt (out of the 4 bolts) did NOT have the large (2" O.D.) flat washer, so i just got another washer. I suppose these washers are required? THANKS! patrick

Hey everybody, I recently got a couple of new ball joints to replace the ancient ones in my '74 260. I ordered the sealed, pre-lubed ones from RockAuto, without realizing that the ones on the car look exactly like these, whereas what I got is what you see in the picture. Will the ones that I got work, or did I make a boneheaded purchase? I realize the difference between them is that one you can lube yourself and the other has "lifetime" lubrication, but it looks like the ones I got wouldn't fit right. I just want to know 100% whether these will work before I tear out the old ones. Stupid question, I know. But thanks in advance for any input!

I'm going to get my car jacked up and the tires off so I can begin my attempt at replacing my rear bushings these upcoming weeks. I was using my neighbors' jack anytime I needed to work on the car, I figured I might as well go out and buy one myself. I found a sale on a set at sears which included a 3 ton jack, 2 jack stands, and a creeper : all for $119.99 - I figured it was a pretty good deal and investment. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00950188000P?keyword=car+jack My plan is to pull my car up onto two car ramps on the front then jack up the rear of the car at the differential, and place the two jack stands in the rear under the frame rails. Afterwards, I w…

Hi ALL! I`d like to pls clarify what the FSM says on p. RA-4 on "Reinstallation" (of Rear Transverse link OEM INNER Bushings) (2) "Align the projection on the bushing (directed to the axis direction) horizontally."- Would this projection be the 2 fin like projections 180 degrees apart on the bushing? Am i understanding it right that if i looked at the head (FLAT portion) of the transverse link inner bolt, that the "fins" should be positioned (by rotating the bushing) so their at 9 o clock & 3 o clock and would get sorta clamped when the Differential Mount Cross member (FRONT portion of differential) is tightened up and also the same scena…

It took awhile, but I finally finished the rear suspension rebuild on my '73 240Z. I found the hardest part to be cutting out the old outer bushings on the transverse links. :lick: I used an air powered body saw to cut the old shells, but it took quite a bit of hammer & chisel work to persuade the old shells to come out. The right spindle pin came out with just a bit of persuasion with a brass punch & hammer. The left side was rusted together pretty good. I ended up taking the strut assembly & transverse link to an alignment shop and they were able to use a press to separate the two. Once I had everything apart, I spent a few weeks cleaning all the pi…

Hi ALL! The left side portion of the chassis where the FRONT Stabilizer bar Mounting clamp is bolted to just sheared right off (BAD rust!). In about 18 hrs. i`l have a body man weld in some new metal so i can attach the left side of the swaybar. Is it as simple as just welding the piece of metal on properly(correct orientation, etc..) then attaching the Stabilizer bar? The FSM mentions "installing the Stabilizer bar correctly so that the position painted in white is in the position in fig. FA-12". That white paint doesnt exist on my Stabilizer bar anymore. Whats the lowdown on that painted white mark anyway? Is it just to insure that the Stabilizer …
