Returning to z cars after 22 yrs. My son asked me to look at a 240sx last year with him for his first car. It had a blown moter and was in very bad shape. I showed him what a real 240z was on the computer ( thanks Google image ) and to make a long story short we flew from the great white north in Aug last year to SoCal and drove home his rust free 72 240z. He has been saving and buying parts for the full suspension rebuilt, and last weekend we started the project. On Sunday the front end got new Bushings, Shockes, Springs, Rotors, Pads, and Calipers. Monday we tackled the rear with new Shoes, Shocks, Spings and Bushings. Removing the pin that conects the control arm to …

On my suspension I have red springs in the front, and I believe blue in the rear. Or is it the other way around... Anyway, also with the car new in the plastic are another set of Blue springs marked "rear 240z" and some Orange that appear to be front from the size. Does anyone have a color guide to these springs and weather they are progressive or not? Thanks...

Hi friends, restoring a '72 240 Z I got a problem when I put the wheel on the left front axle, the tire get's in contact with the spring seat! The strut is from a car that had a crash at the left side. As it is extremely difficult to get 240Z parts here in Germany I have a problem. I got offered a strut from a 73 260Z 2+2 and from a 74 260Z 2+2. I saw that the springs are different, that's no problem exept if the spring seats would be different. Can I just bolt on the mentioned struts instead of the original '72 one or do I run into troubles? Thanks for your support in advance Rolf

Well, got the new z fired up, runs awesome... 2 Things: In the rear diffy I can hear a "wrrrrrrrr" at a sustained speed not a howl per say, just a wrrrrr that gets louder and then seems to quiet down at certain speeds. My guess is worn ring / pinion, but someone wanna chime in here? Also, when I am slowing down to a near stop I can hear a clickety-clickety from the rear that kinda sounds like spider gears turning, not like half shaft joints tho... And, but wait there's more... When I gas the car the rear seems to joust slightly to the right and upon deceleration in seems to go back to the left. Control arms? Thanks guys, and I plan to post some new pics and update the a…

A few months ago I got me a new set of 'made in Germany' ball-joints on Ebay as part of my front-end 'project'. At last I came around to fitting the ball-joints to the control arms today, but to my surprise the mounting holes do not allign with those on the control arm. The are a few millimeters of. What do I do now, throw the Ebay parts away and get me a proper set from the dealer or do I grind the lower metal housing until the holes line up? :stupid: Thanks.

I just purchased the Energy Suspension rear control arm bushing kit. The ID for the metal sleeves for the outer control arm bushings is way too big allowing consideral lateral slop between the sleeve and the spindle pin. I called Energy Suspension and the technician I talked to said that they know that there is an engineering problem with the metal sleeves and that they are taking steps to correct it. If you run into this problem just call Energy Suspension and they will send you new metal sleeves. Cheers Miles

I see that Shox.com has koni shocks available for 240 Z. But I found threads on our site that seem to indicate they may need tweaking to fit>.Who knows more? are these gas struts? Im thinking of using them with the ST springs. I would like to avoid the height issues discussed here regarding gas struts. I know the konis are pricey though. Maybe I could do better with the illuminas, despite the height issue.
