I hope to make this a Sticky (Mike!!) I want to Document every S30 style combo and Turn Signal Switch. I need every one to see what is already posted and add to this Thread if you don't see your style of switches. With any luck, anyone can pick up a switch out of a box of parts and be able to cross reference it here and know exactly what they have. I am now in possesion of over 80+ switches that I would like to start rebuilding for people and customers. Only problem is that there are so many styles that I am not totally sure of what is what. So PLEASE remove 4 screws from the steering column cover, take off the top and bottom covers and......... Take a picture of....…

@HS30-H I found and used this wire for my electric fan controller. The harness had the "blue tape" (visible in the picture) which seems to be the Datsun factory method of identifying wires for some optional use. The wire is 12v switched power when the ignition is in run and had a female bullet connector. Do you know what the Datsun intended use for this was?

I need to get this straight... Are the 240z's pre-wired for driving lights? I was taking apart my dash and noticed a couple of unused wire connections that were taped to the harness. They are very close to the two dash indentations to the right of the steering wheel. Anyone know what these are for? I also seem to remember seeing a few unused connectors near the front of the car as well.

I've poked around looking for a wiring diagram for the early cars (1970) and haven't come up with anything really good. I've turned up five diagrams so far, and they all are questionable in accuracy. This is clipped from a 1970 owners manual: This is another version, supposedly from the owners manual: This is clipped from a 1970 Factory Service Manual - Body Electrical section: And here are two versions clipped from the Service Manual Supplement, which I believe came out for the 1971 model year:

Hi Guys, my issue has returned. I have a new ignition switch, new battery and a rebuilt starter. Sometimes after driving when the engine is at normal operating temp. and I shut down the car, the engine do not crank. I just hear a click at the starter. I have used a remote ignition switch to jump the battery directly to the starter terminal and engine cranks up fine. Also, this issue seems to be more severe when i shut down the car after running for a while. When the engine cools down or sitting overnight it might crank up after 2-3 tries. Any thoughts? I was thinking of getting a new starter to see if it is a bad solenoid first?

Hello all, After finishing my valvework on my 1971 240z, I went to start it up only to find that the coil was not sparking. Although the coil was recieving a full 9v when the key was turned to the 'on' position, when it was turned to the 'start' position, the voltage would fluctuate between 6 and 7 volts. After replacing the coil to no avail, I attempted bypassing the ballast resistor (I have been told it is not needed with an electronic ignition setup) and still do not see any improvement. At this point I have hit a brick wall, I've tried everything I've read online yet I still fail to recieve a full 12v while starting. What else could be the culprit besides a coil? I'…

Decided to go for the Pertronix Ignitor after installing a remanufactured stock dizzy from Autozone. I had all new ignition components now, so the baseline would be a properly functioning point system. There was also some debate on the correct/best coil to use with the Ignitor – a 1.5 Ohm with external 1.6 Ohm resistor, or a 3.0 Ohm coil without a resistor. The factory set-up uses the external resistor that is bypassed during starting to deliver higher voltage to the coil/points and through the external resistor while running to protect the points/coil. Many folks have gone through this, but I thought I'd go through my install as shown in pics below: The Ignitor 17…

I cracked the code on the horns. I was working on getting @Tirnipgreen's re-plated horns working. I tinkered with them some a while back, but I needed some time to focus on them to get the bugs out. Fortunately I had one of my old 260Z horns that was unmolested to use as a template. Before I go into detail, let's talk about the theory of operation. When you press the horn button, the relay sends voltage to the horn. The coil in the horn is energized, pulling the diaphragm in. The bar on the back side of the diaphragm hits a tab on a set of contacts on the negative side of the coil, de-energizing the coil. The diaphragm snaps back i…

Hello everyone At the beginning of November I started the restoration of my 76' 280z. The body is currently getting fixed and painted, engine is being rebuilt and I took on the task of rewiring the dash for the new gauges. My plan is to use the wires required from the original dash harness while getting rid of the ones I don't. Here is where the problem(s) start. I have a FSM and a colored wiring diagram but to be honest I'm having a hard time figuring out what wire does what. I started with the speedometer, which in the FSM states has 7 wires (one spare pin). Mine has all eight used. The connector pins out as follows: The connector is as follows: …

So, since I'm between shows, I figured I'd get a little bit of tiny bits dealt with. I figured I'd do the combination switch. Everything was going fine, got all the plastic cleaned up and polished, cleaned up the contacts on the headlight/wipers/washer side, and then an issue popped up. The washer button is sitting too deep into the wiper section. I looked at the video I took while disassembling it (I figured I forget easily so I might as well) and I can't see anything that would cause such a thing. I thought I'd compare the rod for the washer button and the tube for the washer handle to see if there was a difference in length and it looks like the washer button sit…

I was recently gifted with a box of S30 antennas and associated parts. I hope to refurb them and get them in the hands of new owners. Of three antennas with mast bases, one is marked Harada and the other two have no branding whatsoever. The branded and non-branded units appear to be virtually identical in all respects, except for branding. Both have what might be a date stamp. My question to the group is: did Harada produce non-branded antennas or was there another manufacturer involved building identical but unbranded units, perhaps under license from Harada?
