I was cleaning up the Z last night, and noticed my bulb in the passenger turning lamp under the bumper is just sort of flopping around in the hole. It looks like there should be a rubber grommet between the plastic bulb holder and the white light housing it fits into. Is this plastic on plastic, or is there a rubber grommet between the two to keep them tight. The fit is just terrible now, and I would like to get them back to stock.

Electrical Drain 1 2 3

I have had a drain for quite some time, after the car sits for a month or so it is usually dead or close to, and if i let it get that far it usually does not recharge well and will end up dying on me on the road. Every year or so the alternator goes bad and has to be replaced. I have gone through probably about 6 alternators in 8 years, the only reason I have never addressed the problem is the combination of not knowing where to begin on tracking an electrical drain (that eventually ruins my alternator) and i have lifetime replacement on my alternator, so its always been cheaper this way. But i would like to get things working correctly and am looking for advice on how/wh…

So i just noticed today that my power antenna is not working, i dont know how long is has not been functioning since i rarely drive the car and even less so use the radio, so this could be a year or two old problem. I pulled the antenna out, my first assumption is that it has gone bad, are there any good ways to test the functionality to determine if it is a wire gone bad that hooks up to the antenna or the antenna unit itself. i tried to hook a power supply to the antenna connector after it was removed and it tried to work which makes me think there is a failure in the wiring. To test this would i just use a multimeter to hook up where i removed the antenna? does anyone …

1977 (early) 280Z cold air, XR 700 optical ignition, urethane bushing kit, tokico illuminas and springs (all4), some other stuff i'm forgetting Haven't been on the forums in a while and saw posts about the Petronix. (still researching but getting there) There was a post in the HelpMe section where a user said he switched from the XR700 to the Petronix. I have the XR700 and it works. My issue is it's nearly impossible to tell if my timing is actually accurate due to how the whole thing gets installed. Is the Petronix any better? Should i do the 79ZX Dizzy instead. Megasquirt with fire is not in the budget for another year or two, so it's not an option. Opinions? I'ver he…

I've done several searches and can't find the answer that a lot of you know. Which plug on the pass side supplies 12 v power to basically the whole car. I have issues and need help. There are several 10 gauge size wires in the main plugs and I need to know which wire/wires should have 12 volts on them. thanks in advance.

I know this is probably a rookie question, but on my '78 280z, I have to pull the positive battery cable about every 10 days to clean/sand it off because the clamp and the terminal on the battery turn black (and the car won't start due to the bad connection). Fires right up after being cleaned, though. I've had many cars over the years and have never dealt with this before. One thing, though - the battery on the car seems to be too small. The guy I bought it from was likely looking to cut as many corners as possible to get her running and bought a very small battery for it. I have yet to replace the battery, but it's on the short list. Also, the stereo is currently remov…

I know this has been covered a million times and I have spent the last 1.5 hours trying to find an answer but so far have not. The PO installed a 280zx distributor Accel Super stock "yellow box" coil in my July '72 built 240z. The car ran and the tach worked. The resistor was also being utilized. Once I got all my projects on the car done I went to start it and had no spark even though I had not touched any of the underhood electrical components. With my multi-tester I determined I was not getting any power to the coil or the distributor. So I went about unwrapping the electrical tape from all the wiring. Everything was in pretty bad shape so I started over. I got…

Hey guys Today I replaced the negative battery cable and the starter on my Z. (Gear reduction starte, and it was free.) I started working on my Z I swear that the fuel pressure gauge I have read 0. I have the fuel pump and other things connected via a terminal board directly to the battery. I say this because this is what occured. Everything was unplugged from the battery minus the negative cable (big mistake) I was struggling to maneuver the postive cable into place when I accidentally arched it on the engine (side of the block). Sparks flew I was all sorts of freaked out but ok. Unplugged said negative side of battery and connected everything as it was before. I look ov…
