I was driving down the highway at app. 3200 rpm's and suddenly my Tach drops to 2500 rpm's. The engine speed remains the same speed. Is this a Tach or coil problem. Doesn't the Tach receive a pulse from the negative terminal on the coil. Both the coil and the Tach. are originial to the car. The drop on rpm's last about 15 seconds then jumps back up. At first I thought it was a loose wire at the coil, but I don't see a problem there. This problem doesn't happen all the time.

I removed the Dave Irwin LED taillights from 721, planning to install in the "new" Z. Brought along the LED flasher that worked in 721, too. Guess what? They no workie! The "new" Z is a 10/70 '71. Any thoughts or comments, 'cause I'm stumped?

Hey all I bought my 240z a little bit ago (last year oct) and loved it. But a few months ago i had the car randomly just die on me on the freeway. I cranked it a few times and it started and I drove it around for a couple more week with intermittent problems where it would just die. but now I cannot even start the car. I did a bit of research and and it seems like the e12-80 is malfunctioning but while taking apart my distributor i noticed there is a pertronix electronic ignition in there. So now I am not sure what i should do....should i buy a new distributor (looking at a chevy HEI) or should i just try a new e12-80 (where should i buy one of those?) Also is there anyt…

Never had this issue before, but started my car to adjust the carbs and noticed a few intermittent arcing sparks on my coil from the ground (negative) post to the center wire from the distributor through the plastic housing. Happened just a few times and then stopped. Weird! Have not done anything new to my electrical recently. Have Blaster coil, e12-80 electronic ignition, and recently new, thicker spark plug wires. Car stumbled slightly when the arcing occured. Any thoughts?

Does any body know what this blue/white(CIRCLED ORANGE) wire is suppose to be hooked up to? I was wiring up my wiper motor and there is a separate blue/white wire besides the one above. The wiring are all there... but there are TWO separate blue/white wires. (CIRCLED GREEN) Black Blue/Red(wiper switch and motor connected to fuse box w/20 amps) Blue Blue Yellow Blue/White And also when i turn on my wipers, the blades have a hard time moving up and down...

I'm sorry for beating a dead horse, but does anyone know of any company that sells a NEW wiring harness for my 10/70 z? I have been out of the Z game for over 15 years, although I have had a rust free super straight series one in my garage for about 20 years, it's finally time to get started. But what I can remember, the wiring was always a problem. Burned out fuses and fuse boxes and non-working tail lights, blah, blah, blah....so I've been looking around but can not find anyone so far that sells such, but can anyone here direct me in the right direction. Thank you for your time.

I posted on this a few months back but have had my 76 280 2+2 in the garage since. I started it up yesterday to get back into the problem. I have had the car for about 1 year and it has always broken down on me about once every 3 weeks. I drive the car about 6-10 miles daily. I suspected I might have rust in the gas tank, and still might, and it was suggested that maybe I have a bad ignition module. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, voltage regulator, alternator and battery. Here is were it gets a little odd. My wife gave me a retrosound radio for christmas and I installed shortly after. I ran a wiire directly to the battery terminal (could not find o…

I've seen some walk throughs(mustangs..) that show that this has a plastic gauge to set the gap, but mine didn't come with that. has anyone installed one of these systems>? (this is actually on my '72 skyline, not a Z, but i bought a Z ignitor.. they don't make one for the skyline) My L20 engine is pretty much the same as the Z, just smaller.

Hi.Can anyone help me with this... for two years I have always had a strong backfire when I snap the throttle back at 4000 rpms and up. I was looking inside my distributor, and found my vaccuum pod is shot, and it leaks vaccum. I capped it, from the engine side. However, when I had the distributor cap off, I noticed that the plate only moved about 1/4" inch rotation. My questions: Isn't the plate it supposed to move much more, for mechanical advance? What is the slot screw for? I circled it in red, in photo below. I cant undo it, it just wobbles around in an elipse and won't unthread. How do I get to the bearings below, to check their condition? Thanks for …

Hi , I'm having problems with my windshield wipers. they aren't stopping were they are suppose to but i have search and that is just the switch. Now whats happening is that they only work when it has been turn on to any speed but only while i have the spray button push in. no water comes out and only works as it would when the sprayer is suppose to. (on for a few seconds) Im not sure if this is a common problem but searching has not come up with anything. By the way i have taken apart the multi switch and cleaned up all the contacts. If the contacts were the problem while does it only work when turn to any speed ( meaning the contact are working on the multi switch, I'm g…

I have installed a 3 wire tach in my 71 240Z with stock L24, 280ZX ignition, and MSD Blaster 2 coil. I spliced the positive and ground wires into the original 4 wire tach harness, and ran a wire with a 2200 ohm resistor in line from the negative terminal on the coil to the tach. When I start the car the tach indicates what appears to be the correct RPM for 3 or 4 seconds, then drops to zero. Revving the engine results in a reading on the tach which seems to be too high (for example, about 2800 RPM at 60 with stock 4 speed and 3.36 axle). Also, whenever an electrical load is applied (turn signals, 4 way flasher, heater blower, headlights, any or all) the tach needle jumps…
