Hello all, just after some advice regarding electronic ignition upgrades. I've seen a good deal on a crane xr3000 unit along with a high performance coil. I'm sure there's a few of you who have installed similar units and i was wondering what's involved and if there's any real difficulty/complications? Cheers

I've never done this modification so be aware that I cannot be responsible for the outcome of your attempts to follow this procedure. I'm not repsonsible for anything! Yeah, That should cover it! Carl (bambikiller240) This information is from an article prepared by Steve Golik of the Smoky Mountain Z Car Club. I copied it from ZHome.com and from the archives at ZCAR.com The Purpose of this page is to give the reader an understanding of how your present externally regulated alternator, can be replaced with a newer model, internally regulated alternator . Converting to an Internally Regulated Alternator Question: I would like to know if anyone has converted from…

I've scoured the forum to find an answer or at least a similar problem to mine but to no avail. So here goes: I have a 72 240z currently running with pertronix ignition. It runs great excecpt the back of the ignition switch gets hot. A few years back i had the same problem but didnt catch it in time and a wire going to my ignition switch got hot and melted the plug on the back of it. The morons who replaced the plug cut the wires instead of pulling them out of the burnt plug and then replaced the plug. Long story short, i had to replace the pertronix back to points. After the car sat for some time and when I had the money to replace the pertronix I did. Now I'm having…

I'm trying to fix my night lights and i found the reason for the problem ( burned switch contact) but when I'm trying to hook up it up to the headlight switch by adding a relay hoping it would solve the problem. BTW I didn't even get a chance to hook the wires together to my headlights switch and now my headlights went out. I don't know why it no long work...now I'm trying scratch my head to diagnose the problem. Can anyone help me. I don't know a lot about electrical but just enough to hook relay to headlights. I did manage to took some pics to see it anyone can help me.

OK - this item is on the firewall of my 73 240z, on the passenger side near the battery. As you can see it is looking every bit of its 39 years. My question - what is it and what does it do? Thanks for any help you can provide!

To all the electric gurus, I need a pulsed negative for my Speedhut tach. Can I tap the #4 pin at the ECU to achieve what I need? Is this a reasonable solution? Suggestions? I have the FSM and a color schematic of the electrical system but reading an electrical diagram is not my strong suit. Well, ok, I'm a wiring theory moron but more than capable of soldering and heat shrinking. Thanks! '78 280z

So I've been trying to wire this new Mallory Unilite into my customers 75 280Z and I'm a bit confused as I'm finding conflicting information. Along with the Mallory I'm also upgrading to the Crane PS20 coil. Motorsport Auto says to retain the factory ballast with this coil. I did some quick checking and it doesn't appear that any of the posts on the factory ballast get less than 12V with the key in the on position. Am I wrong on this? Also I've read that you must run a ballast that drops the voltage down to the 6-8V range to keep from frying the module on the Mallory...so how do I make this work with a stock ballast that doesn't seem to be cutting the voltage? My new…

Im trying to rewire my brake light and wipers. The fuse block for the wipers is melted on that fuse. Wondering if the relay or motor is more commonly the suspect. Its the the right side of the fuse that is melted. Fuse intact of course. And where might that little relay be located?

Hello everyone. I just joined this site. I own and operate a restoration shop in central NJ and do a lot of work for members of the NJ Z Club. I ran into an issue today that I'm not sure how to remedy if it's even possible. I have a customer's 75 280 here that I installed a warmed over engine into last winter along with restoring everything visually. He has it back to upgrade the fuel and ignition systems a bit. I ordered up a new coil, the Crane XR3000, and Mallory Unilite distributor for the car and was getting ready to install them today. However there don't seem to be any brackets in the XR3000 kit that will install the correct optical trigger in place of the st…

Just got Pertronix Ignitor 1761 and try to install onto my '72 240z factory dizzy. I try to follow other thread "Pertronix Ignitor 1761 install and coil evaluation", but when I open up my dizzy, it looks different from 280zx dizzy. I could not figure out which wire I should remove. Could someone give me an advice? Thanks, tamo3
