I had a bad regulator on my '77 (bouncing volt gauge) and ended up buying a new one off of BD. Oddly enough when I took the old one out, one of the wires from the 6 connector was not soldered to the regulator and was cut short. I though that was odd, so I jumpered that wire and it sounded like it may have been the cold start injector, although I am unsure. I received the new regulator from BD and installed it today. When it got power, the regulator let out a bug puff of smoke. Turns out that the wire that burned out was the same wire that was cut short and not soldered on the previous regulator. The good news is that the gauge is steady now at the appropriate voltage (f…

Do Datsun Z's have clips or anything to hold the injector plugs on? I was replacing some fuel hose today and I noticed one had come off. I then realized none of the plugs have clips or anything to hold them in and it takes almost no effort to pull them off. I Elec. Taped mine. But there must be a better way?

Hello All. I am constantly worried that my car will catch on fire someday due to the harnesses Ive been hearing about, being old and overloaded. I plan on rebuilding the harness to include relays but Im afraid I will mess things up badly. My question though is, Are premature headlight(s) failure a sign of a bad headlight harness? I just bought New headlights (sylvania) for my 280z and I only got around to installing one so far. The one I installed though has burned out already after like a week of use. The headlight that I left in and didnt replace is now brighter and seems fine. So whats going on here? Thanks

Guys, I have finished painting my 1978 280z, i'm in the process of putting everything back together. I have fixed several lights that didn't turn on before like the center light, cigarete lighter light and gauges lights. some fixes were simple enough to just change the light bulbs and others I had to clean the connectors. My question is should the hazard light (the light inside the car where the hazard switch is) be on when you turn your head lights on, or should the light only light up when you turn the hazard lights on? Every thing seems be working fine, my turn signals, hazard lights and my headlights, I just want to get this clear before I put everything back together…

I am rebuilding a 1978 280z that was stripped many years ago. At the moment I'm trying to get the relay shelf and relays together. I think the 78 280z uses 4 relays for a 5 spd manual: 1. A/C relay 25230-4205 4 pin connector 2. EFI main 25230-89970 4 pin connector 3. fuel pump control 25230-8996 5 pin connector 4. Fuel pump 25230-H7200 4 pin connector The picture shows the relays. I don't beleive I need the inhibitor because of the manual tranny. The question I have is, in looking at my old relays 3 look alike. 2 are marked 25230-H7200 while they other can't be read. Does anyone know if these relays can be used for a…

I am looking into purchasing a '71 240z and the current owner of the vehicle said that the car use to shut headlights off randomly and that the fuse box would constantly heat up. To me this sounds like a short somewhere within the wiring harness and COULD be fixed. However, she is recommending a new harness (which I can't find around). I am no master in wiring what so ever and I am brand new to the world of the Z. I would love some input by you guys to tell me what I could be in for IF i pick this car up and what I should do to fix any problems with the wiring. SIDE NOTE: The owner (older female) said that her and her ex were fixing the car up little by little and tried t…

I have searched endlessly for information on a headlight relay writeup for a 280z (my car) or even a 260z for that matter. Only the 240z. And from the responses I see on forums is that the 240 harness will not work for the 280z. So can I still use the guides online for making a relay upgrade for my 280z? There are like 3 different versions that I have seen, maybe more can anyone point to the most reliable or easiest version? Ive found write ups here: http://www.zhome.com/DaveRelay/DaveBuild/DaveInstruction.htm http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/HeadlightRelays/JudkinsRelay.htm I thought I knew more off the bat, some more easily understood than others.

I hate my fusible links because they keep burning up damnit.. and they are soo corroded and nasty.. i decided to convert it.. I picked up the kit from Pallnet.. similar to the setup BLUE sells.. in the Atlantic Z car club.. anyway.. cheap.. and easy to do... I used a Maxifuse setup... and an MTX fuse bus!

When I turn the key on, the tach goes to 8000 and the car is not running. I removed the tach and I get 12 volt on the green wire in the harness, 2 volts in the red with black strip and continuity to ground in the black, green with white strip ,and red with blue strip. On the tach I get 4000 ohms at the single post to the case and 320 ohms between the dual posts and the black wire show continuity to the case. Is my problem with the tach or some were else in the wiring??

So I feel dumb for asking such a simple question. But how and the hell do you change the headlights on any Datsun 240-280z? its very hard for such a simple thing! The way I tried to do it was: Removing dust/mud guard thing from inside the front fender wheel well. This allows me to get to the 4 Hex head Screws. After taking out all 4 screws I then push the headligh in towards the wheel so I can remove the 3 Bezel srews to the headlight. Then Taking that off and the the headlamp itself. But there must be an easier way. The FSM just outright baffled me. So please help for a new guy like me to the S30 chassis!

:bulb::bulb:Today was to be the day that my old light bulbs in the dash would be replaced. I started with the gauges and that went well...moved to the glove box and console lights..still not many problem, then to the tach. OOPS, the socket's fingers that hold it in came out as three pieces. The bulb was also the flat push type not the round pin type I thought I had. I called z car parts to see if they had this socket and why the bulb set I bought from them did not have the correct type of bulbs??? They said that all the dash bulbs should be round pinned type and they do not sell the socket. So here I am. Does any one have any of these sockets that they want to sell ?? I h…

My headlamps will not turn on as well as the gauge/instrument lights. Checked the fuses and all but the 2 Headlight fuses get power. The fuses appear to be great. I checked fusable links and stuff. I dont have a ohmeter or anything just a check light to probe stuff with:bulb: I also checked most of the connections and they appear to be good as well. So what could be the problem? my model is a 77 280z and I have a FSM but its hard to trace through the car for stuff when you just bought it
