Okay folks, I recently purchased the 60 amp alternator upgrade from MSA and the install was simplicity itself. I am very happy, but to make the job complete I also bought a Deltran Battery tender Jr 12v model. I have heard nothing but great reviews so I decided my red top optima deserved it. Now here is where it gets weird. I have left it on the car for a solid 24 hours now and it is still glowing red meaning it has never reached the 80% charged level it should and go green. So I picked up my voltmeter and started to do some fiddling. Hooked up to the battery tender, I get about 12.3 volts going to it or so after 24 hours. Unplug the battery and it stay around 12…

I recently upgraded to an 83 280zx alternator and added relays to my headlights and fuel pump. I also picked up the MSA Dual fan kit. Yesterday I replaced some wire and redid the connections for the main power wires (white/red, solid white) at the fuse block and by the accessory relay. I have read that once you start to power items with relays it bypasses the amp meter so that it will read higher than it really is. With the lights and fan on my meter is right in the middle of 0 and +45 and it doesn't follow engine rpm. Is this too high? I connected my multimeter to the radio power wire and it showed 14.36 volts so I don't think I am over charging. I just want to make …

Hello everyone, I've been out for a while. Finally getting around to Z car improvements. I've moved the ZX dizzy to my 73 Z and it runs fine. Only thing is I can't figure out why the ZX ignition had a condenser. Does anyone know its purpose? On a conventional points system the condenser is there to save the points and return some energy back to the coil. With the new pointless hei I don't think its needed for that but the condenser did something on my old rust bucket 81zx. Was that how they coupled the signal back to the tacho? Reduce radio interference? I looked at some of the reference html on the old points style and the hei style and they don't even show the …

Whats up guys a few weeks ago my temp gauge wasn't working. At first I thought I just had a bad connection so I cleaned all the plugs but still no luck. So them after I went ahead and check the water temp sensor and found this the loose cable seem to becoming from what I believe is the water temp switch but im not sure. If you look closely you will see 2 small green spots were looks like cables were coming out of. I was over on zcar.com and I came across this thread but on the pics I didn't see that screw that I have the arrow pointing at.car is a 76 280z http://www.zcar.com/forums/702926/280z-question-newb

Has anybody used one of these to make mulitiple power connections from your battery power terminal? StreetWire FBXM68? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JBzEyNMMd9Y/p_211FBXM68/StreetWires-FBXM68.html In todays world of cell phones - nav - upgraded sound systems - Daves wiring harnesses - radar detectors - IPODS - there must be a organized way to pull power from your battery and feeding accessories without the engine bay looking like a mess. ------------------------- Also - while we are at it: Wirthco 30200 Fuse Tap Kit - agc With a lot of todays electronics we have to pull a power source from the fuse block as well as pull continual power from the battery. Has anybody…

Well I finally got around to putting a Group 24 battery in my 71 240z today. As others have mentioned, there is a certain amount of anxiety regarding the placement of the positive battery terminal and clamp being so close to the fender sheet metal. I know using a Group 24F battery solves the "problem" but I had already purchased the 24... So, I grabbed some thick rubber sheeting I have around here, cut a hole in it for the positive terminal with a large flap left over on the outboard side. Slipped it over the terminal, installed the terminal and left the flap to fold over the top of the terminal. (I was sure to make the hole large enough to allow the clamp to push down s…

I was doing a compression check with a friend about a week ago when on the fourth cylinder the starter wouldn't turn the engine over. We both assumed it was the solenoid/ starter. Since that time I have replaced the starter, charged the battery( new battery -12.7 v), found that someone in the past fried the fusible link, hit it with a hammer--no good results! The starter sounds like it is spinning, but the flywheel does not engage to turn over the motor. The flywheel isn't missing any teeth and will turn with the crankshaft. Is this a starter switch problem or can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Allan

Does anyone know the output ranges and corresponding reading on the oil pressure sensor/gauge and the fuel sender/gauge? I have a 1970 with new sending units but the gauges are suspect. Thanks for any help. Mike

On a drive out to Galena with my recently purchased 73 240Z, my dashboard lights went out suddenly. Then about 5 minutes later I got pulled over and found out my tail lights were out too. I saw a thread with this discussion before but couldn't find it again. So I am posting what I found. The headlights still worked. I changed out the tail light fuse. Didn't work. Then I read sometimes the fuse box gets rewired and monkeyed with so that the labeled fuses aren't always right. so I changed out all of the fuses. Didn't work. After much searching up and down the wires from the tail lights up under the dashboard and into the engine compartment, I narrowed my search. I…

Where does the ground wire get bolted to? It is the one that is attached to the fuel sender wiring bundle and goes through the rear of the hatch deck and down by the fuel tank? I've already got my tank installed :stupid: and am having issues figuring out where it goes. No brake or tail lights till I figure this one out. I know I can bolt it to ground anywhere it will reach but I was looking for the correct location for an early 240. Thanks, John
