I'm curious about taking on the lighting harness upgrade, posted here: http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/HeadlightRelays/JudkinsRelay.htm I'm just researching for now, but it really seems like with the component prices shown on that site, the $150 price tag of MSA's ready-made harness is high to say the least. I'm no expert with wiring, but I can follow a diagram and use a multimeter and have made cables n stuff before. So my question is, on the diagram on that site, is there a need to open the headlight switch to rewire those contacts (to improve 100% of the wiring) with new wire, or can they just be cut close to the switch and spliced that way? A lighting upgrade is appealing…

Can anybody help me identify the two relay junctions that are side by side near where shock is attached under hood. The left one and circuit closest to passenger side? I think it has to do with alternator. Thanks

Hey guys. I've been working on piecing a 260z back together after it sat for who knows how many years. It's a couple days away from initial run, depending on how quick I can figure it's electrical gremlins out. The engine is in, only thing it needs is the alternator, and the cooling system hooked up. I hooked a battery charger up to it the other day (battery is dead) and when I turned the ign switch to 'run', the tach showed a constant 1800rpms or higher. The coil was making some angry noises, so I stuck a spark plug in the end of it and held it to the intake manifold. It made a constant spark across the gap. The ammeter barely moves when the car is turned to run …

As I've read through posts about different H4 bulbs I have decided Hella would be most appropriate for where I live. I live in northwest Arkansas out in the country, so brights are important to me (not that I never drive into town--I am a college student). As I've searched online I noticed Hella sells different bulb types such as clear, colored, and mega white. My question is, what do you guys prefer? Are the "normal/original" Hella H4s the most typical? Thanks, Bryan

I am reassembling my 72 240Z after painting it (350Z silver alloy). For the paint job I removed the front turn signal housings, marker lights and harnesses and also removed the rear marker lights, brake/tail light assemblies and harnesses at the connectors. All harnesses were marked with tape and identified as for right left etc. Hot wires were marked on each marker light. I reinstalled the front turn signal/parking lights, all of the marker lights and the brake/tail light assemblies carefully matching the harness connectors. Problem: the right turn signals and the right rear marker light don't work. All other lights work. The L & R green turn signal indicators work…

So I got the car to run but the headlights don't work. I can turn the combo switch on and the parking lights work. When turning it so the headlights are on they don't come on. I can use my brights though, so I don't think its the combo switch (I took it apart and cleaned it anyway though) and its not a fuse I've checked and I've got power to the fusebox. Does anyone have anywhere else that is a notorious problem that I should start looking at so I don't just start tearing into things? Also my turn signals don't work. Any help on that one? All the other lights work but headlights and turn signals. Kinda need them in the winter though. Thanks.

I want to add some relays for the head lights, starter, electric fans etc. Relays are $7.50 @ Radio Shack. Then you need to source the sockets. I found some on ebay @ $4 each + $1.50 shipping. Adds up to $13 each assembly Then you need fuses and fuse holders. I'm thinking buying these and just using the parts I need makes more sense. I can't make a junk yard run anytime soon and I can't find my old z31 relay stash. Just thought I'd get some outside input. ---------------- Now playing: C,S,& N - Guinevere via FoxyTunes

Can't seem to get the wipers to stop in my 74 260z. I have the intermittent and two continous speeds but when I turn the switch to the off position they just keep going ..... pulled fuse for now. I followed the trouble shooting suggestions in the service manual (i.e. removed wiper motor and adjusted auto-stop switch) but no luck. Of course, I may not not have adjusted this switch properly. Any suggestions?? I am hoping it is not the combination switch...kind of pricey. Appreciate all the help. Thanks, Colin

Hi guys, I'm working thru some electrical issues with my new-to-me 1970 240z. Most were related to old, frayed wiring. The one issue remaining is my right rear signal light doesn't light up. The right front does, and so does the dashboard arrow. Brake lights and parking lights all work fine. Possibly a problem with contacts in the signal stalk? thanks, Phil

Hrm ... so I just got done installing an electric fan (fan clutch, after less than 20k miles ... but over the course of 4 years ... stopped working right... ) and while I am quite pleased with it's cooling capacity, I'm now concerned about my charging system ... at least while at idle... The fan, draws somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 or 15 amps, which, on my stock 50 amp alt is pretty significant. The obvious solution is to spend the blood sweat and tears (not to mention do-re-mi) of splicing in an externally regulated badboy from another car ... but I have another idea ... and this is strictly a feeler to see what the electrical gurus on these forums think. The stock…
