Fellas, Car info. 1971 240z with ZX distributor mods done (ballast resistor removed). Here is my issue. My car has the craziest idle and it is reflected in both my timing light inductive rpm function and the wild swings in my AFRs according to my LM-2. The rpm jumps +/- 300 rpm and then throws the AFR numbers are *all* over the place. So basically the car rpm surges up and down at idle in particular pattern...it's crazy. Timing is set to about 15* BTDC static and the vacuum adv is disconnected. The timing under the light seems pretty stable and doesn't really jump around with the fluctuations in rpm (I guess it's not enough to get the mech adv to cause a shift). I j…

OK, here’s an interesting observation / dilemma. I have a strut brace-bar in my engine bay, the typical round, chrome bar as sold by MSA. (attached pic) When adjusting the idle on my front carb, the screwdriver shank contacts the strut bar, making a metal-to-metal contact. When adjusting my idle speed the other day, I noticed a weak “ignition sparkâ€ from my screwdriver tip to the idle screw, just before it touches. So it looks like I have a high voltage leak somewhere in the ignition system, but can’t find it. At first I thought the ignition wires were to blame, but it happens with both my old and new ignition wire sets. I’ve verified that t…

Hey guys, Thought I'd show you all my new euro headlights in case anyone else was thinking about making the change. I am really happy about the results. I've always liked the clear lens look. I got them off of Black Dragon around $35 a piece. I did not get the blue coated HID bulbs. I am just sticking with the 12V 60/55 watt bulbs.

I believe I have my engine harness about hooked up properly now in my 9/71, but I have some extra wires that I can't seem to pin down on the schematic. The engine harness wires basically end at the coil power wires, and I believe I have them all hooked up properly, but there is a red wire with black stripe and a solid black that I'm not sure about. The red/black stripe wire actually splits into to wire ends with some blade type connectors on it. This car was equiped with A/C at one time and that's the only other thing in that area that is not accounted for. I have looked on my schematic but just can't seem to make the connection(pun intended:)) Also, I have upgraded to an…

Mine came with some mess of a thing that was a frankenstein of several other brackets and some alternator that didn't fit (thus, I guess, the homemade alternator "bracket"). The set up wobbled and shook so bad it was the first thing I took off when I got it home. Anyway, to the point- I don't think I have an original bracket (what I have is in my pics) for reference. I've been looking for a pic of just the bracket(s) with no luck. There are no 240s at the yard but there are two 260zs and a 280z. Will either of those brackets work? The replacement alternator is too wide to fit in the bracket- and I'm not sure, actually, with that in mind, which part is the wrong one.

I cant seem to get my tach on my 74 260z to work I got all the lights to work but the tach does nothing.. I have changed it out with 4 others and still nothing. Can someone please tell me how to make this *%@#*^ thing work. Where do the wires go to make the tach opperate? any help would be great. I have tried to look at wiring diagram but I cant see it well enough to trace the problem out. Also maybe a diagram showing how the coil and dizzy and everthing is spose to be hooked up showing positive and negetive the PO cut wires and taped wires so Iam unsure how the correct wires hookups. Thanks Jonathan

Until today I was running some Sylvania sealed beam headlights that the PO had installed in the car - nothing special. A few years ago (maybe 3?) I installed Dave's headlight harness, intending to upgrade to H4s eventually. I finally got around to ordering a set (the Autopal set MSA is selling now), and when I installed them, my high beams no longer behave properly. The driver's side headlight correctly switches between low and high in sync with the little blue indicator light in the speedo, but the passenger side headlight does the opposite. I.e.: High-beam indicator ON -> Driver's side high, Passenger side low High-beam indicator OFF -> Driver's side low, Passen…

This should have been one of the first things i did, adjust the valve timing !. The engine ran ok with a few minor fixes, so i decided the suspension was tops on my list to get in order. I had found an earlier post by one member on the adjustment of the valve, pictures and all. He listed all the tools needed, including a remote starter and how to hook it up. This may me simple to some but for me i would rather do it correct instead of damaging my old car or my self. Can someone help me with this ? What needs to be dis-connected and where do you hook the wires to ? PS i have been using the search engine for the last hour and have not found anything !
