Is there a proper way to wrap the wiring on aZ, so it will stay on, look nice and not unravel after a year? It seems that no matter how your wrap it, it still looks kinda crude, but the platic split loom stuff seems out of place on a classic car. I have just been re-wrapping the unravelled stuff, and applying a little E-6000 (or sho-Goo) to keep the ends attached. thxZ

Where can I buy a new positive battery cable for my '78 280Z? Went to start it yesterday and it tried to start and then just clicked. Battery was on a battery tender and showing fully charged. There was some corrosion on the positive post so cleaned that off and tried again. Nothing. Took the 7 year old battery to Walmart. It test fine. Took the battery back and reconnected it. Car starts. Tighten it all down. Won't start. Just click and nothing. My father in law sees some smoke at the positive cable end. Jiggles the wiring and it starts without even tightening the cable down. What should we do? We were thinking replace the positive lead. I looked at MSA and they sell som…

Well I am about tired of the crappy lights on my Z, and I am desperately wanting to update them. My cars alternator is completely stock as is all my wiring. I would like to upgrade, but was wondering what is the best choice, for a stock wired 240Z I know Zsonthebrain sells that fabulous wiring harness, and thats a good option. But is there an improvement possible without it?

I'm having a problem with my dash light circuit on my 1975 280Z. When ever any lights are turned on the 20amp fuse for the Lighting/dash lights burns out. All the running lights will work if I disconnect the dimmer resistor. Using the FSM ( Page BE22)I have done the following steps: Checked all lamps in circuit (Running lights as well as dash lights) for corrosion and have checked that all lamps are good by pulling out all gauges and testing them with an outside 12 volt source. Checked the dimmer control and registers good with 10 ohms at full resistance. Have checked the fuse block front and rear. All good. I have disconnected all the instruments from the instrument ha…

As you could guess the previouse owner of my 1973 240z had a push button starter which I wanted nothing to do with so I bought a turn key ignition and now my poor baby wont even sing a note for me... nothing not even a little grumble. I have limited knowledge when it comes to electrical but from what ive read if you have a problem with your ignition you either bypass the relay and install a pushbutton starter or buy a knew relay. So my question is I guess has anyone done the push button back to turn key conversion? I really need help so it would be much appreciated if anyone chips in on this one. Pictures of a factory relay and switches (steering collum electrical for a 2…

On a previous post, I mentioned that I had noticed that sometimes my AC fan and my radio would keep running, even after I turned the key off. That post was about a problem with the AC blower fan and radio that turned out to be a loose wire, and was not related to the AC and radio problem in the other post. Today I figured out that the random AC fan and radio running after the key was off is not so random. Both the fan and radio will continue working after the key is off until you take your foot off the brake. They do not come back on when you hit the brake again. Now...newer cars will allow the radio to run until you open the door, so maybe this thing I'm experienci…

Help! I need the lists collective wisdom. I drove my 260Z this morning to my kids hockey game. When I went to leave I turned the key and nothing. Dead silence. No hums, no fuel pump, no lights no radio... I cleaned the poitive terminal which looked clean except for a little corrosion on the outside of the clamp bolt. the ground looked fine and tight. Nothing chaned when I tried to start it. I tried to jump it and I had a hugh arc that melted a spot on the terminal. I came home and searched the treads and the closest I found was a "Dead Short" in a battery. So I pulled a battery from my 240z that was on a charger and installed it. Still nothing. Then the ran came and I …

Hey everyone, I just installed the Pertronix ignitor and flamethrower coil on my 72 240z. Everything was running ok before I replaced the ignitor and now it wont rev past 4k. I haven't checked the timing yet, but I dont think that would be far off as it was running ok earlier. When it hits 4 to 4.5k its like it hits a rev limiter and backfires. I disconnected the BR and put a wire in between the 2 that were coming off it (with 2 male connectors). Everything else is still connected like the condensor and stuff. Where do I look? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Elliot.

I'm in the process of restoring a 1976 280z (my first car!) and I'm on to the interior. I have never wired a stereo and I don't know what to do exactly haha. I am dealing with the stock stereo. I did not work when i first got the car, and not all the wires were hooked up. Here's whats up... It doesn't power on. It looks like the guy who owned the car before me jumped the stereo into the circuit breaker. And the wiring harness that leads to the stereo has been altered it looks like..maybe that's just me haha. I have searched for wiring diagrams and schematics everywhere but no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot.

I had my 72 240z repainted last year and had to make all of the lights work again. Recently, the stop lights stopped working. If I put 12v to the brake light switch, the tail lights do not light. I have the wiring diagram but ran out of ideas of how to trace the problem, any ideas? Bob M

Well I screwed up.:stupid: My headlight switch usually takes 3 tries to turn on and my right blinker wont stay up through a turn. So I orderd a combination headlight turn signal switch from Ebay which was advertised to be compatible with my "72. Last night I was all excited to put it in only to discover the wiring harness wasn't compatible. I have contacted the seller who's name will remane private unless he decides to be difficult. I don't really want to cut the wires on my car. So my question is this; is there a specific part # to look for out there, so I can be sure that I am getting the right one next time. Also, how can I determine what year this new one is from i…
