Hi all, My alternator had been cranking out marginally high voltage since I've bought it -- high 14's. It's now putting out slightly higher. I discovered the problem (no thanks to my largely inaccurate dashboard volt meter) when my stereo was freaking out from the high-ish voltage. Anyway, I obviously need to address the problem now. I looked in the FSM, and I see this sort of problem can happen when the internal voltage regulator isn't well grounded. Thinking back, I had rewired all of my grounds (making them much better) when I did my conversion from fusible links to maxi fuses. In the process, I took loose the ground wire from the back of the alternator, which was…

we have a 240z. is there a way of repairing a temperature gauge on this car? the gauge is the original and we are sure the problem is the gauge. we checked the sending unit (new) and the wire going from the sending unit to the guage is good. the only problem we found was the smal white wire inside the guage is frayed. is there a way to fix this? if not anyone now were i can get a dual guage like the original.

Well...sorry for the confusion of the title of this tread. i observed this morning that the brightness of my headlights is lower at idle than at throttle no matter my A/C is on or not. Could it be just my alternator belt that is not tight enough?????it doesn't slip on the pulleys when the engine is shut down but at higher RPM it waves a bit as a bad belt and it is the same from my A/C compressor belt side. My belts are new from the last year, alternator replaced last year also and voltage regulator in same time. It is a 72 240z. I know that the A/C draws a lot of power from the engine and is always on because I live in Vegas. Engine cooling is in the middle of the gauge, …

I tried out my handheld CB radio for a club outing next week, and I'm getting loud buzzing from the engine. It has stock ignition, resistor plugs (I think) and I plug the CB into the cigarette lighter plug. I was thinking of adding an extra cigarette lighter jack on the riser hehind the seats. There is no buzzing on the stereo system. Any ideas? thxZ

I just picked up a Mallory Unilight to replace PO's dual mag auto dizzy. PO's dizzy worked OK but the timing was erratic (loose shaft). Anyway, I have an F54 block, E31 head, SU's, does anyone have thoughts, experience with advance settings for this dizzy, and/or setup? By the way I picked up the Unilite at Amazon for $311, and last I checked they still had 1ea item left for sale.

Just developed an issue with my '73. Drove it yesterday for the 1st time in about a month and when using the left turn signal, the indicator in the dash illuminated solid as if one of the turn signals were blown. Went out to check it out today and when I turned on the left turn signal, it began working but flashing slightly more rapidly than usual. I also noticed that the left side indicator lamps have begun flashing in alternation with the left turn signals (as the flashing signal goes out, the side marker illuminates and vice versa). This only happens on the left side. Additionally, the right turn signal actually blinks almost imperceptibly with the left. There are othe…

Hey guys, I just need some direction. I can turn my blinkers on, and they work fine, with no headlights. However with headlights on, my tach shows a weak, but solid, passenger side blinker on the tach, no affect on the outside of the car, just on the tach. Is this a device put in for a bulb out, or is this likely the combo switch? Thanks Frankie

It is rectangular and has the letters HBS on it. 3 wires going to it, GR, GB, and G. Can anybody tell me how this is wired? See attached pic Thanks Frankie

I was wondering if it is possible to use a E12-80 Ignition module on a 77 dizzy? I think I saw somewhere that it is possible, but I don't know how to wire it correctly. If someone knows for sure could they please explain how it wires up. Thanks

Hi all, The FSM for early (1/70) 240Zs doesn't seem to exist and the one for the 1972 model that is available seems to show the wiring to be different from the 1970 model. Is there an accurate wiring diagram for the early 1970 240Z? When I use the search it seems to be able to take only one word and if two are used it seems to use them each separately so that a search on "accurate wiring" turns up posts with either but not both words. Do I have this right? Thanks, Mike

When I got my 77 280Z about 2 months now, after a month of using, the starter (3 month old starter) doesn't turn over. Took it to Autozone and they said that the solenoid does not engaging. So I ended up buying a ReMan starter. After about month with the new starter, (which is last night). When I tried starting the car, it cranked for 1 second and all I can hear is clicking sound. So I checked the battery wires and felt that the + (positive) wire was very hot. Checked everything including connections to the battery to the starter. All good. Went back to car and try crank it again, no reaction, voltmeter gauge 0 volts. lost all electrical power and here comes a black s…
