i'm reassembling my engine bay, and i don't think this is part of anything that's bolted to the walls, but i just can't remember where it goes. it branches off of the harness that goes down the driver's side rail towards the front of the engine bay.

Hi all, I want to replace one of the two very large connectors that are on the cable that goes out of the back of the fuse box because one of them broke off. These are the two white wires that go to the battery and ammeter according to the wiring diagram. I cut the crimp lengthwise on the largest connector I could find and tried to crimp it around the stump of the original connector that broke off. I soldered everything but someone who has raced cars told me that solder tends to come apart with vibration. Is there a way to get a really large crimp on connector to replace the original? I already tried Napa and another auto parts store and they just have 12 gauge cr…

So I've been reading for the last five hours sifting though countless threads so if someone who actually knows can you verify this information for me. This is what I understand.... I have an MSD 6AL that I am installing in conjunction with my stock ignition system on my '72 240Z. I haven't done the 280ZX dizzy upgrade yet. Our tachs are a current trigger tach which will no longer work once the 6AL is hooked up. The 8920 and 8910 are tach adapters - the 8920 is for Magetic pickup like the Pertronix 1761 setup and the 8910 is for voltage triggered from the negative side of the coil. In order to get my stock '72 Tach which is current triggered to work I need to use a Chr…

So once it fully Stopped and wouldn't start at all! After I took it home it was a link that was burned out it was in a box right to the battery covered by a white square top there were two wires in there well one of them burned out which was the reason the car wasn't starting! But after that incident the cars RPM gauge and the Fuel Gauge don't work anymore and the Fuel Gauge fuse keeps blowing! PLEASE HELP! The car starts and runs but the fuse keeps blowing!

I've had a strange thing going with my radio and AC blower for some time, and its now become a major problem. It started a few days after I removed and replaced my dash. When I shut the car off, sometimes the AC blower and radio would remain on for a few seconds to a couple of minutes. I just started up the car today, after not driving it for a couple weeks. The blower motor no longer works. However, when I turn it on, it causes the radio to stop working. The radio won't work again until I turn off the car and turn it back on. I'm hoping this will click with someone, so that I can find a starting place in my troubleshooting. Speaking of clicking, there's a relay…

HI, does anyone have a part number or brand of the correct battery? Shouldn't it be terminals to the front side of the car with the possitive terminal on the engine side? My battery from auto-zone is terminals to the front with the possitive terminal under the pop-up access panel. thor

I dunno if if this is normal on the Z. I have a 77 280z. Everytime I start up the car and let it idle, the voltage reads around 13.5v which is I think normal. If I turn on all the lights, a/c, radio, while idling, it reads 12.4v. and if i rev the car up to 3000 rpm, it reads 16-17v. is this normal? or i have a bad voltage regulator? I am new to the datsun scene so I don't know if this is normal. thanks.

Hi all, Hope you don't mind, but now that I am making progress, I will throw out a bunch of questions that are probably simple to answer (this one should be VERY simple). A Chevy V8 guy has a lot to learn about these little Z cars! :stupid: Anyway, can somebody tell me where this wire gets grounded to? I did not pay enough attention when I pulled the engine from the ZX... Thanks in advance! Tim

Hi, I've got a 78 280z and both the thremotime and water temp sensor connectors pretty much turned to dust, I haven't been able to find any cars to pull these off of, any ideas where I can get replacements for these? Thanks

Hi all, I was able to get her running for the first time this weekend - WooHoo!!! '83 2.8L ZX engine and 5 speed, new Z-Therapy carbs, stainless header, yada, yada... Here are a couple of shots: Anyway - Done gloating. Here is the electrical issue that I have. Electrical issues ARE NOT my strong point! I have installed the ZX alternator, dizzy (with Dave's plug-n-play diode - tach is working fine). I am just afraid that I might have missed something during the alternator swap. Car will run fine with White/Red alternator wire disconnected, but obviously this wire needs to be hooked up (I assume no charging is being done without it). When I hook the White/Red …

We were working on the LeMons '74.5 260Z today, trying to start it for the first time in 15 years. A PO messed with or removed nearly every system on the car, so consider it a basket case. After installing 3 screw SUs and tons of stuff that had been removed or hacked, we were ready to start it. After not getting anything, I checked the timing. With the #1 cylinder at TDC, the distributer rotor was not pointed to 9 o:clock, but rather at 7 o:clock. I pulled the distributor to check the shaft position and it was dead on 11:25. I turned the engine until the rotor did point at the #1 plug and it was way off 11:25. I had to pull all the wires and index them one hole cou…

I am planning on trying to rebuild my wiring harness this fall and have some questions. My books are with the car at the body shop but what gauge of wire is used? If I end up upgrading the alternator and the headlights, should I use a heavier gauge or just a good quality wire that isn't 39 years old. Fortunately, I have 2 complete harnesses so if I screw one up I have another to fall back on. Thanks for any input. carl
