I have been tinkering with a 80ZX distributor for my 240Z recently. I bought a used one and took it apart. The advance plate (Breaker plate in the FSM) was broken, and I repaired it as I suggested in an earlier thread, but I was not happy with the operation afterward, so I ordered a new breaker plate and vacuum advance from a local Nissan dealer. I had trouble getting the "correct" parts, and ended up with these: Vacuum Advance: 22301-P7901 Breaker Plate: 22136-H9501 Having heard all of the horror stories about too much advance I decided to measure the vacuum advance of my new setup. To do this I first measured as best I could the radius upon whi…

I'm installing a fuel pump on a '71 Z (build 12/70) and have found the aft connectors, but cannot find the fwd connectors (green and black with white tracer). There is nothing wrapped in blue tape, can anyone point me in the direction of it's origination point, ie fuse box, ignition? Just thought I'd ask before jumping in with the multimeter.

Need some help on zeroing in on an electrical problem. When turned on all the exterior lights are working except the running lights on the rear panel. Headlights (high and low), turn signals, side lights and the brake lights all work except the rear lights at night. The dash lights also do not work but the turn signal bulbs flash when I move the turn signal lever for a rt. or left turn. Also the blue indicator dash light for the bright lights works. All the fuses are OK. Any suggestion where I may look first? Both of these problems started at the same time. Thanks.

I purchased a 280ZX distributor to begin tinkering with with the intention of eventually putting it on my car. I disassembled it yesterday and when I took the "breaker plate" or advance plate whatever you call it out several small plastic pieces fell out of the thing. (The 79' FSM calls it a breaker plate but others here seem to prefer the term advance plate.) The plate was so jammed up that the top part would not move relative to the bottom part. I also noticed that the magnet that fits under the stator is completely shattered and apparently they are NLA according to this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32769&highlight=280ZX+distributor …

Hi guys, I am trying to get back to work on my Z. It has been sitting dormant way to long. Here is my issue though: I am trying to get my XR3000 and coil hooked up and running. I have the 260Z distributor which is as far as I know the stock one. This is an electronic distributor and looking at the diagram hookups I have found around the forums it always shows three wires coming out of the distributor and then going into a molex connector before the XR3000. The problem is that my dizzy only has two wires coming out of it, not three. That is the part that is throwing me off. I can get a picture tonight if it helps but I was curious if any other 260 owners have found an ans…

I had not seen this done this way so I thought I would share what I did. I needed a way to mount 3 switches somewhere but I did not want to put a new hole in my console. My rear defroster did not work so I had that switch space plus the empty spot next to it to use. Looking for a way to make it look as natural as I could I wanted to use something that matched the texture of the console. I had a few extra covers for the rear of the console and saw that it would fit with just a bit of trimming of the console. Next job was to find switches that will fit. I bought the switches from Delcity, www.delcity.com, no reason other then variety and ease of ordering. I needed a…

My car is in the shop with all my books so I can't look this up. I want to look into rebuilding the wiring harness for my 240z and dont know what gauge wire to purchase. While I am at it, does anyone have good source for wire? I have seen previous threads about connectors so hopefully I can find everything from those. Thanks. Carl

On the back of my spedometer is some device installed, it looks as a relay, can someone please explain to me what it is. One of the wires that connet to that device goes to the face disc, i wonder why, i'm about to swap in a km/h spedo from a Fairlady, i need to use the old housing, being that the Fairlady housing is the later type, out from the back of the Fairlady spedometer is two wires, one to the face disc and the other to ? and what is that suppose to be good for. So I have decided to buy up some gauges for my 1975 280Z SR20det project. Prosport 52mm tinted glass gauges: Air fuel Boost Fuel Press Oil Pressure Oil Temp Water Temp Volt (maybe)Exhaust temp AM I FORGETTING ANY? 5" Cobalt Autometer Speedo and Tach One thing I am considering doing is just putting 3 of the gauges in the stock location, then affix the rest to the top of the dash like in the first picture. The dash is in pretty bad condition, and I am going to be doing a custom fiberglass dash project which will be wrapped professionally in suede. At that point I will conceal the gauges better, but for now I think im gonna go "drift" style. It comes priced o…

Please help, my son tore this 76 280z down for a school project. Am in the final stages of putting back together. Installing new radio, and tried checking the electrical. The car starts, the headlights work but not the dash lights, or tail lights, or the windshield wipers or blinkers or radio. Have replaced all the fuses and still no luck. I need a wiring harness diagram for dash if anyone can find one and any other advice I can get. Electrical stuff is definitely not my strong suit. Getting rusty in Seattle, Roundy:mad:
