I have just bought a SPAL shaved door handle kit and was wondering if anyone has tried one yet or has any wiring tips on a 77 280Z. The one I have is the 7 channel. I'm just wiring to the doors and the rear hatch.

I installed a 280zx distributor in our L24 a couple years ago and set the initial timing at 8 degrees advanced at idle. For the last few years I have noticed a buzzing at part throttle tip in that sounds like detonation. I also changed the exhaust at the same time and dismissed this as a resonance issue with the aftermarket exhaust and not detonation, dumb mistake in retrospect. I hooked up my innovate wideband o2 sensor to aid in tuning the carbs this last weekend and in the process checked the total advance with my dialback timing light. Holy crap, it showed 48 degrees of total advance in by about 4000 rpm that seems like way to much to me. I ended up backing my initial…

What are the chances (if any) that they are likely to go out? I am asking because when i try testing my EFI system wit the ECU plug checking for the continuity for my injectors i come back with none. Unless i am doing it wrong.

I tried searching, and it seems like nobody agrees on what is the correct vacuum source for the distributor advance. I search "vacuum source" and get about 20 posts, and 10 say 1 thing, and 10 say another. I'm running a 1979 E12-80 280ZX dizzy, with my stock L24. New ZTherapys carbs. Should I be connecting my vacuum advance to the small tap behind the front carburetor, or to the balance tube? My FSM is for a 73 240Z, so that isn't helping. Thanks.

My 72 Z has a dual point distributor. It is a pain to maintain in tune and it is very hard now to find good point sets. The fiber block wear very fast and I need to adjust the points every 200 miles. Now I am trying to figure if I have not a distributor problem. The cam lobes are nice, the shaft is tight and doesn't seem to have excessive play. I adjust the points at .020-.022 as per the specs and it is the same on each high point on the lobe. The engine idles fine. Now if I am at a stop light with the foot on the brake (AT) the engine seems to barely miss a bit as if the fire would not be strong enough. I put on neutral and it idles better but I can still perceive the sa…

So I've given up fighting with the stock points system and broke down and bought a Pertronix setup. I was trying to put it in today, but had some issues with getting it in and rememberred that the autos had the 2-point distributor which was different than the single point of the manual transmission cars. I called MSA and they couldn't tell me if they were compatible or not, and the problem is there's literally not a single picture on here actually showing a Pertronix installed in a 240Z distributor, so I'm not sure if I've got it in right anyway, I can get the main screw holes lines up, but then there's another screw hole that doesn't line up with anything, and I really h…

ok so here is the problem i am trying to get my 1978 280z running and all the relays are good but i do not get any voltage to the actuation side of the furl pump relay. but if i jumper a 9 volt battery to that side of the relay i can get the car to run till the battery runs out the only exception is when its like that if i try to turn on my blinkers or hazardz then it dies and i also dont have any interior lights. or instrument panel lights. any ideas ???

I'm installing a new ignition switch on my 240z and I've run into a frustrating problem. There are 2 screws mounting the ignition switch to the steering column and I have no idea how to remove them. The only way I can think of is to use an screw extractor drill bit to remove the screws. Is there any better way to remove them? Any way will work, even if it means breaking the old ignition switch.

The car is a 1973 240Z with E12-80 ignition from a 1979 280ZX and an MSD Blaster 2 coil, nice stereo/CD (no amp) but otherwise, pretty stock. I'm planning on doing an alternator upgrade, and eventually the headlight wiring upgrade. I don't plan on adding any more electronics to the car (except the headlight upgrade), so the demand its at now is about all it will ever have. My question, do you think I'd be good with the 60 Amp upgrade (MSA - $120) or do I need to spend the extra for the 120 Amp upgrade (Z Specialties- $225)? It almost seems like with my set-up the 120 Amp is overkill. But I also wonder if the 120 Amp set-up would throw a hotter spark with the MSD coil/E…
