What purpose does this cable serve??? The one in my car was falling apart so I just cut it off and replaced it with one wire. Was this wrong to do? Because my car is having a bad time starting!!!

Is it true that the later alternators from 280's will fit a '70 without alteration? If so, do I have to replace the ammeter? Thanks Mike

I've been hunting down the cause of an intermittent "no crank" issue that appears to caused by a shaky fusible link to harness connection. The white plastic connector on the harness is brittle and 60-70% gone!! I can cobble it back together with dielectric grease and eletrical tape but, I would rather replace the brittle connector with a new one (if that's even doable!) I thought about havesting one from a junkyard 240 but, it would be ~37 years old too! Any suggestions on how to make this connection water/corrosion proof again??

I just got a couple of original horns and both seem to be inoperative(hooked them directly to the battery to test them) Does anyone know if they are rebuild able and how? I made a half-hearted search of the forums and came up dry. Thanks, H Houghton

My L28 was beginning to experience some hiccups lately. It would start and run easily enough but would run 'flat' with poor throttle response and the thing would hesitate until the engine was fully warmed up. First thought that came to mind was the carby. Don't all investigations start with the carby? However, the engine had been running well a while ago and had only started to degrade recently. I had a good look at things under the bonnet. I asked myself the question...."How old are these guys?" The leads were the original L20AET ones I got from a Jap import motor I bought way back in 1990. They looked good and weren't crossfiring but were they up to scratch? Time …

Just finished installing the ZX dizzy into my 73. The wiring diagram I was working off of didn't say what to do with the yellow wire that went to the old points. Should I just tape/cap and leave it, or is it supposed to be wired to something?

Ok, I am the proud owner of an 82 280. The person I bought it from said it needed a new alt. He purchased one but never installed it. Bought the car and drove it home on just the battery. Today I wanted to install the alt. I took the old one out but it didnt match the new one. I went to autozone to make sure the right one was purchased. The alt in the car matched up to a 77 280. The wiring on the back is hacked up so I am not sure how to hook up the alt. Can I make this alt work or not and if I can which wires go where.

78 280Z. Fuel and electrical systems are totally stock. Car runs fine. Should I be able to hear the fuel pump working when the key is turned to "on" or just when it's turned to "start"? Currently the fuel pump does not operate until I turn the key all the way to "start" (starter motor engaged). Search function revealed conflicting answers - perhaps the answer is different depending on year model. It seems to me that I used to could hear the pump come on when placing the key to "on" (years ago) and so I'm wondering if something has happened that only allows it to operate when engaging the starter ("start" position of key). Any help is most appreciated.

I have a 1976 280z. The only way I can get her to start is to tap the ECU with my foot while starting the car. Can I just go pull a ECU out of another Z the same year or so and put it in or does it have to be a set one??? I have not pulled it out yet to see if its just a bad connection or not but we will see. Thanks for your input...

I have a 71 240 Z (71/5). I replaced the dash wiring harness and have trouble with the turn signals and the hazard lights. The hazard flasher lights do not work. The turn signals only work if I turn the hazard switch to the on position. I have replaced the flasher. I don't hear the click when I turn the flasher switch to the on position. It seems also that the brake lights do not work. Any help is greatly appreciated. Lewis
