Anything about the electrical system on a Zcar.

  1. Started by 77Z,

In my 77 280Z I've read 13 volts on the meter for over 40 years. Just lately it has started spiking upon starting the vehicle. It will shoot up to the pin and the car runs but the audio system sounds pretty funky. So, something is going on. I can restart the car and most often clear the problem. Sometimes not.

I have a 1973 240z, installed new gas tank and fuel sending unit. When I fill the tank full the dash fuel gauge reads full. After driving for about 100 miles the fuel gauge show 1/2 full. When I fill up the tank only down about 4 gallons. Any help will be appreciated!

Can someone tell me what this wire set is for or goes to? That will give me a place to start research how to connect them up. Thanks

I took the plunge and purchased LEDs to replace the exterior lights, except for the plate lights. So far I replaced all but the lights under the bumper. I'll probably get to those this weekend. I did check the current flow with the LEDs, and it is now 2.6A. I didn't measure the current before the switch, but I estimated it to be approximately 7.9A. (For the record, I was expecting about 2.9A at this point of changing out the lights.) I purchased all of the bulbs from Superbright LEDs. Here is what I selected for my 260Z Front side markers - 67-A9 Rear side markers - 67-R9 Rear stop/tail 1157-R12 Rear turn 1156-R12 Rear tail 67-R9 Front turn 1157-A12 Reverse lights 67-W9 L…

  6. Hi Guys, I posted a year ago that I bough a Auto 280z and finally I had it running. Had to do quite a lot of work and it still need more tuning but I was able to get it running on road. The problem is starter voltage !!! I have the new Nissan OEM fusible links installed as well. When you turn the ignition sometimes the starter does not get engaged and if it does it does not get full voltage. We have to use a remote starter button and directly supply voltage to the starter and it then cranks up nicely. The battery is brand new. Can someone guide me what to check between ignition and starter? I would assume there is somewhere a relay also involved.

  7. Hello, everyone. I just acquired a 1974 260z in December 2021 (I believe later 74 because of the bumpers???). I finally got a dream Z!! It's rough around the edges, but I've been chipping away at the thing to get it to a daily ish car. Problem is, I hit a hard wall to overcome. I have pretty much no electrical experience with cars. I've done the small "wire the horn into the aftermarket race wheel" job, and a cruise control wiring chase with an e46. Pretty light work. Well, I jumped head first into what I consider intense wiring: Adapting newer relays to the fuel pump system. I only have one of the two original relays, and the previous owner says the one I have is al…

Hi I'm trying to repair my elctrical seatbelt warning, get it working again. Wonder if there are some documentations on that here among the members who would share it with me🙂

  9. Hi I have just bought a complete set of bulbs from Zcardepot but none are suitable for these lamps. Does someone know what type these bulbs are and maybe a picture of it.

if I were to buy LED headlights would I still need the "headlight upgrade harness"? I was thinking the lower power pull for the LEDs would eliminate the need for the harness. I never drive at night and the LEDs are funny looking but I do like the option if I decided to go for a midnight run. Thanks for any input. These are the lights I could buy for not much money if I decided to. https://www.ebay.com/i/174083088616?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=174083088616&targetid=916863675069&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9012737&poi=&campaignid=9343999170&mkgroupid=100238963011&rlsatarget…

  11. I've spent the past day cleaning the turn signal switch contacts on my 1970 240z to fix some electrical issues. The left/right blinkers now work, but I'm still having trouble getting my brake lights to work. After installing the cleaned TS switch, the brake lights worked initially but then stopped working-- so I tore it apart again to make sure that the contacts connecting the signal from the brake switch to the tail lights were clean. Upon reinstalling the switch they still do not work. I've confirmed that I get 12v on the green/yellow wire from the 6-pin connector that goes into the TS switch harness. I've also confirmed that when the TS switch is plugged in to the…

My '75 280z isn't running yet, but I think I'm getting close. I just finished going through the fuel system (new pump, lined tank, new filters, cleaned/checked function on all injectors, checked pressure, replaced hoses, inhaled copious amounts of gas fumes, etc) Next up, I'm starting on the ignition. I visually verified spark on all plugs when I did the compression check, and replaced all the plugs with fresh NGKs. The plugs are wired in the correct sequence coming off of the distributor cap. The car still isn't starting/running though. Within the normal range of adjustment (with the distributor adjust screw still in place), the best I get is a few chuff-ch…
