After banging my head for about a week trying to get fire from the coil I was able to get some help from this forum and finally see a flame! To make a long story short I ended up pulling the distributor from my 73 (dual points) and put it into the 72 just to see what happened. Well what happened was I had a spark from the coil. My problem now is figuring out what the problem is with the original distributor. I need to put the test distributor back into the 73. Does anyone know of any specifics that could cause the dizzy to prevent the spark from the coil. Keep in mind I'm just trying to get the spark from the coil, I'm not concerned at this point of what happens after it …

I was given a 1971 240Z from my nephew who had not driven it for over a year. He said there was a short somewhere and the battery would go dead. I have a new battery and took the altanator off and had it checked and it is OK. Any suggestions on how to trace down a short in the system?

I'm interested in upgrading my alternator to as many amps as it can go. I ran across this web site and it got me thinking..... http://www.zcarcreations.com/howto/voltreg.htm The 240SX alternator at 90 amps seems that it might work. I have seen that some 240SX owners have put 110 amp Quest alternators in. Soooo, the question is... is it possible to put a Nissan quest alternator on a 240Z without fabricating a new bracket.... or other unforseen complications?

Hey Guys, I'm having a bit of a problem with the headlights on my '72 Z. It seems that the driver's side headlight is very dim while the passenger side headlight is fine. If I unplug the pass side headlight from the harness, they both go out entirely, but if I unplug the driver side headlight, the pass side headlight is OK and remains on. I cleaned up the connectors to both lights and checked both fuses and they appear OK. Any ideas? Thanks, TR

Besides my low-beams not working, last night when I was driving to dinner; the taillights/dash lights would flicker on and off. Jiggling the switch a bit would turn them back on. I did this about 3 times, before they finally stayed on. I'm not sure if the headlights were cutting on and off, but i'm positive the tail-lights/dash lights were. Any ideas on whats causing this? Maybe the switch's inner wiring? Thanks!

I was getting on the freeway yesterday and going up the on ramp the car started "misfiring" ( quotations because I am not totally sure what was going on ) the car stopped accelerating and sounded horrible and felt like the engine was struggling to even stay running, I clutched in and the motor died right away. Towed off the freeway for the first time in my life. I have fuel, carbs are well tuned and happy. I have a good coil, tests with a multimeter well and the ignition lead throws plenty of spark when laid on the fender and motor cranked. But if I remove a spark plug and ground it on the fender, no spark. I checked all the wires to the Pertronix unit and they are good. …

I have a 73,74,75, and a 77. My major problem with all of them is electrical. I have taken the diagrams and have had copies made and enlarged to about 3'x4' prints. Even with these there is so much I can't figure out I have to try and wire around the problem which sometimes works. My 77 has a good alt. and regulator but the charge thier putting out isn't going anywhere. The engin compartment flume had been replaced before I got it and put back together without a shunt or fusible links. There are just large gauge white wires connected to large gauge W/R wires. The relay bracket on the fender has nothing more than the regulator. The leads that should be going to the missin…

I have a 1980 280ZX that the alternator went out. At least I thought that was what it was. I took it to a local garage here in Dallas. They called me 3 days later and said they had tried 2 rebuilt alternators from a rebuilder they have used for many years and neither one of them will charge. They checked with a local foreign car specialist and he told them they would need a wiring schematic/diagram because the problem may not be the alternator. I've got to have the car towed next week about 50 miles to a mechanic who specializes in Z cars. Has anyone out there had a similar problem and how did you fix it. iamtosher iamtosher@gmail.com

Hello, I have an minor problem, I hope. I have a fuse that continues to blow as soon I attempt to make contact. It's the dome light fuse. The door open warning light is also always on and the lights inside do not illuminate, i.e. dome, spot, trunk, passenger and drivers side. I ordered new door switches but haven't recieved or installed them yet. I also pulled all interior bulbs and put them back in and still the fuse blows. Everything else still works perfectly. Any Ideas? Tim

My tach in a 73 stock 240z wasn't working. After checking power and ground, and continuity from the b/w & g/w wires under the hood to the tach connector I finally determined I better pull it out and check the innards. This is where it gets interesting. The needle was pretty much hung wherever it happened to stop on the dial. I loosened one of the rear case screws and the needle became "unhung" and moved to the zero stop. When I tightened the screw it hung again. To make a long story short, the return spring is so delicate that having electrical posts or case screws too tight warped the movement enough to make it hang. Ultimately making sure the positive and negative p…
