I was driving my '78 280z home yesterday, and the turn signals stopped working. When i hit the signal switch or the hazard switch, nothing happens, no noise, dash lights, or exterior lights. I bought a turn signal flasher, but I can't find where the old one is (how embarrassing). Is this the problem, or could it be something else? Thanks, -Ben

Hi all. I removed the dealer installed am-fm radio from my car. It was a Bowman radio that had a special metal plate the mirrored the size of the original am radio faceplate. It also had a hole for the electric antenna cut in it. I have attached a picture for those interested.

I'm working on fixing my tach since it's not working because of Mallory ignition system (car is 72 240z with L28, mallory ignition, 3x Weber). I've also got the tach adapter. The tach adapter is plugged between the green distributor wire (Dist. Trigger?) and red wire (coming from the ignition - 12V when key is on "on" position). I've tried first without bypassing the ballast resistor. Tach was working only when key was on "Start" position. Then, I've tried to bypass the resistor, the tach is now working as it should .... but the engine does not run properlly anymore: misfire, smoke like crazy (white smoke), stalls if i release the gas pedal (even with the choke on) an…

Is it possible to bypass the electronic controller for the windshield wiper motor? I had the idea that maybe the controller (a transistorized thing) itself is pooped-out, so that might be the reason why the motor is slow. If you could do a quick check, then you could narrow things down. The controller doesn't seem to be available new. thxZ

Hi all, I have a 1973 (build date 6/73). I am refreshing the cooling system and found the thermostat cover is a bit corroded (see pics #2&3). It appears that a cover for this build date is NLA. My question is what is this electrical part (see pic #1)? It appears to be a thermo control of some kind and it fits in this cover w/ pipe threads (see pic #2). It is not the water temp sender as that is in the thermostat housing itself. The only thing I have discovered is that it might be a thermo controller for the automatic transmission, however I have a manual transmission. As far as I know it never had an auto trans. The real question is: Can I use a thermostat cover from…

I have two problems with the electrical system. The first has to do with the turn signals. When I turn the switch one way, both lights blink. Only one turn signal is illuminted in the dash though. I'm lost here... The other thing is the tach. When I turn the key on it pegs high and stays there. 73 240z Any suggestions? Rich

As my tittle says I'm not able to find the tach wires into the engine bay of my 72 240z. The previous owner installed a mallory ignition system (Mallory Unilite distributor + Mallory Hyfire 6AL ignition) but did not take care of the tach wire. The wire I'm looking for should be a black and white wire which should have been plugged to the coil when the car was stock. On the following wiring diagram, we can see which wire I'm talking about I doubt the previous owner cut or removed the wire when he did the swap. Where does this cable go???? I've tried to see if I can find this wire by following the harness from the cabin with no luck. Where should this wire be? Can so…

I've had my Autometer autogage 5" tach in the dash for the past couple of months and have had this issue since i installed it. the tach has an intermittant problem under 2K rpm. it usually jumps around between idle and 3K anytime i'm under 2K. i've dealt with it though since i am rarely under 2K rpm. i thought that it was normal for an aftermarket tach, but then i installed a 3 3/4 sunpro in the wife's 510 and it works flawlessly. the reason i installed this tach in the first place was because the stock tach would only rev to around 3K rpm... very odd. i attributed it to the fact that it has a 280ZX electronic dizzy in it. anyway, what could be causing this? is it possibl…

So in order to get my headlights and parking lights and turn signals to work I started tracing a bunch of wires. I started at the hazzard switch and down by the fuse box only to find out that one whole connector had melted. Not only that but I have wire ends all over the place and I don't know where to start. I've looked on ebay and it seems that someone has one part of the wiring harness. The best part of that is he lives in my home town so I wont have to pay for shipping. I just hope that he has the other parts or can get them for me. If anyone knows where I might be able to get a new harness that would be great. I've done a search and none of the sites mentioned in pre…

i've got a '72 240z and the headlights won't work. i got the right one to work at one point, but only when the brights were on, however, as soon as i turned on the car, the headlight wouldn't work anymore and i haven't been able to get it to work at all since then. when i test the connector on the car, it gives me 12 volts of power, but when i plug in the connector going to the headlamp, the light doesn't work. i know for a fact that the wires going to the new headlamp are fine, so shouldn't the headlight work? does anybody know what might be wrong? another problem is that when i plug in the right headlight connector, the bright's indicator on the instrument panel won't l…

I just received a wiring diagram I had purchased on ebay. I am sure everyone has seen them for sale. Full color, laminated, etc. The one I purchased was advertised for the 69-70 240z and I am not sure how much it differs from a 71-73. I ran to the garage to compare with my wiring harness lying in the cardboard box and it seems pretty spot on (green and white, blue with red etc.). I haven't done a complete head to head comparison but think it was a good buy. It gets a little busy with everything on 1 page but the color is really nice. It is a lot easier to follow than the black and white ones I have looked at before. It even has the wiring for foglights (see earlie…

Ok, so after I lost an eBay auction the other day for a NOS engine bay harness I was kinda pissed. I HATE the electrical nightmares these cars cause and I've decided it's time to change the one area my car is lacking. So I am in the planning phase of going ahead with a from scratch build-up of an engine harness. I want to start with the engine bay because it's the one area exposed to the harshest conditions (and the one that gives me the most problems ). If anyone else has researched this or has links that would be helpful please do post or PM me. So far for the connectors I have found the following sources: http://www.vintageconnections.com/index.htm (borrowed from …
