I've poked around looking for a wiring diagram for the early cars (1970) and haven't come up with anything really good. I've turned up five diagrams so far, and they all are questionable in accuracy. This is clipped from a 1970 owners manual: This is another version, supposedly from the owners manual: This is clipped from a 1970 Factory Service Manual - Body Electrical section: And here are two versions clipped from the Service Manual Supplement, which I believe came out for the 1971 model year:

I noticed a burnt wire on my voltage regulator. Can I just clean it up and tape it or would it be best to track down a replacement or investigate a cause of the melted insulation? They are $84 at Rock Auto. The braided hoses in the background are to my oil cooler in case you are wondering.

I have not been able to get spark and have now figured out the black white wire that goes to coil + gets .15v yes .15v when key is on start. It’s a points dizzy. New coil. Points set. Green white to ballast 12v on start. Bw to other side of ballast 12v on run. Is the problem coil wire running through the tach and running into a problem there???

When I did the restoration on my 73 240Z I purchased a Pertronix ignition to replace the points system. I had problems with it at the time, so I decided to go back to the points system temporarily until I got everything lined out. Got the car up and running late last year and everything seem fine. After setting all winter with only occasional starts, I started having starting problems. To make a long story short (after much frustration) I decided to try to go back and install the Pertronix system. I wanted to be sure it was functioning properly before injecting another problem into my already frustrating situation. So, I called Pertronix to see if there was any way t…

Someone has recently chaged the online parts catalog and not necessarily in a good way. Back in 1999 I purchased a hard copy of the factory parts catalog that someone had made from the Nissan fiches for the 1970-73 240Z's. This was long before we had these resources available online. Here is my scan of page 25-1 covering the combo switches and the online catalog had the same P/N's and effective dates until recently: The switch for the 1972 car was P/N 25160-E8800, effective dates 09/71 - 06/72. It's my understanding that the 1973 model introduced the 3-speed (intermittant) wiper control, P/N 25160-N3300, dates 07/72 - 07/73 This is what the online cat…

The low and hi headlights do work on my 72 240z however the blue light in my speedo is not working. Should i attempt to remove the speedo to change such blue led or should i check anything before? I already pulled both turn signal and combo switches cleaned all there connectors and still no blue light.

Id like to source a good wiper water pump for my 72 240z. Something that fits correctly and has gas enough power to spray the windshield. This is the one i have and is currently shot. Im also attaching a picture of the one i found on the web.

Yesterday while turning the left signal while driving a friend of mine told me the rear left hand bulb was not lighting. The this is that it does flash in the board and if you swith the emergency switch it also flashes. This leads me to believe the turn signal switch is failing maybe a burned contact. Theres is a video in youtube where someone pulls the T/S switch from the steering column and opens the contacts . I really dont wanna mess anything and look for a faster solution to avoid removing the switch. Ive eliminated all possibilities an think this is the only solution remaining. How should i approach this repair?

I’ve searched the forum and Car Parts Manual looking for the lighting harness grommet that feeds through the engine bay into the wheel well for the head light & side marker lights. Can anyone help with identifying or sourcing these grommets for my build? Appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance….

I'm trying to find the right size pin extractor to remove the round male pins from the connectors. The size appears to be the same as a Molex pin. (0.093" or 2.36 mm). Has anyone on here found a good pin extractor for these? I am hoping to design a headlight relay solution for the 260Z/280Z that will be of similar elegance to the solution I created for the 72/73.

The gas gauge on my '73 was not responding, other than the needle coming up to "E" when the key is on, no matter how much fuel is in the tank. I finally clipped the two wires together at the sending unit and the gauge jumped right up to "F". I pulled the sending unit (new) and "Surprise, Surprise" (thanks, Gomer)...the little screw that holds the float arm shaft tight to the rheostat contact arm was loose...! I never checked it before it's initial installation and it was a head-scratcher for others as well as myself. Feeling foolish in North Georgia...
