Hey guys, I just replaced my 73 stock distributor with another one. What was happening is that the rpm and tach would hop around wildly and then the motor would sometimes die. There's some mechanical wear in there somewhere. After removing and a quick look it wasn't obvious where the mechanical slop was so I guess I'll take it appart and have a look. I saw some posts about the bearing in the bottom but that looks tight at least from the outside. Does it need to be taken appart to see the problem? Question is, does anyone sell the detail parts for these or do folks just buy a rebuilt one? I'd prefer to buy one or 2 parts and just fix it myself. BTW, I have experienc…

Well guys, I am in the market for a NOS 280z wiring harness ... there was one on e-bay last night, but I was outbid, I guess I didn't set my price high enough with the auction snipper ... My car is great, but the wiring is far from good. This would have been quite an easy and good fix to some serious issues I have had with my car. So I am on the search for another one. Thought I would drop a line here to see if anyone knew of where to start ... I have the auto e-mail search set up on Ebay in case another one decides to show up.

hey I am trying to get information on the z car that had the voice warning system, going to install one in my honda,I always that was just a great icon of the 80's. i looked into this several years ago and never got back to it. now I've forgotton all the info I had so carefully researched. If I can figure out which car had the module so I can pull one, and get ahold of a wiring diagram again,or a zerox of one. I would be great. I'm a wiring whiz,so making it work is a piece of cake. I had already figured it all out about ten years ago. then i lost my notes. I think there were several other nissan/datsun cars that had this system also,

I,m thinking about putting in some sylvania silver star sealed beamed headlights on my1976 280Z. I still have the original headlights on it and the deer are getting too close before I see them! Does the headlight harness upgrade that VB sells still give you control of your headlights on the stock controlsON/ OFF Hi low beam? I called them and they said they would get back to me. It looks very similiar to the ones that were selling on this site. Thanks.

I shorted something today and heard the started click, now the car wont start. So my thought was that the fusible link has blown. I pop the hood and look for it, I cant find any. Can someone post a picture of the fusible links in a 71 240z. I would really appreciate it, I may have been looking right at it an not realized. Otherwise, Im pretty sure sometime during my cars life the fusible links have been removed. Thanks

So looking at how everything fits together I need a starter to match my tranny. That'd be simple, if I knew what tranny was on my car. Its a '71, but somewhere along the line a 5 speed was shoved in there, the PO says it was out of a mid 76 or 77 i think... .. but his information has been less that reliable. soooooom, here's the question. I notice that starters stay the same from 70-77, thats fine and I'll get one of those if thats what my car needs. But then they change, will this earlier starter still fit on a later tranny, or does the fit change as well. Im hoping someone will have a quick simple answer for me that doesnt involve me jacking the car up and crawlin…

I found out my 280Z has a power antenna ( OEM one, I think), but the radio isn't connected to it, AFAIK. Modern radio. 1. Can you disconnect the antenna wire at the antenna and hook up a plain one instead? 2. Can you activate it by jumping the lead near the radio or something? It might be neat to see if I can get it to go up & down, if it still works. thx

Hello I'm new here, and ive read a lot of good posts. just wanted to pass some information on.after a month of trying to find out why my headlights intermitantly turned on while the car was parked, even after completely removing the headlight switch, i narrowed to the motorsport printed circuit fuse block "upgrade" it seems the back of the printed circuit board like all printed circuit boards have these very sharp nipples where there soldered to the board. since the wires are all ran across the sharp areas, my wire for the parking lights was pierced by the fuse holder for the headlight which in turn made my headlight come on even with no headlight fuse(getting power from …

Could someone tell me where the wire from the bcdd is supposed to go to? Where is that wire located and what color would it be? The previous owner had it running to one of the black wires for the temperature switch(?)(facing the front of the engine the switch to the right of the temp sensor. Has two black wires connected to it.).He also had that black wire disconnected from that switch. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm not familiar with this ammeter in the car, more use to voltmeters. I start the car and it runs well. When I rev the engine, the ammeter follows. It does not go past about 40amps, but its following the revs of the engine. Putting a voltmeter to the battery shows 14-15 volts, again raising with the revs, but not going much over 15. Is this normal, or is it a sign of an electrical problem... volt regulator, bad connections, etc .. oh yeah, its a '71 and has the original style external regulator. Thanks, Adam

I have read that the housings can be swapped between a 240 tach and a 280 tach so that the 280 guts will fit properly in the dash of a 240Z. I have noticed that the round silver tach needle assembly on the 280 tach is larger than the one on the 240. Can these be swapped as well so that it will appear the same as the one on the 240 speedo? Seems someone suggested using a dinner fork and some delicate persuasion. Also---I have attached pics of the rear of the tachs. To connect the 280 tach to the harness can I cut into the black and red tagged loop harness of the 240 tach shown and attach a female bullet connector so that it will clip onto the single pin of the 280 tach…

Quick question...other than the obvious.....are there any significant differences between the short and long pigtail fuse boxes... are all the connectors and fuse positions the same? My early 71 should have a long one but it has a short version??? Perhaps the whole harness is a later version.... I want to buy one of the new motorsport boxes and would prefer a longer one as I expect it will clean up the wires in the dash and make a neater radio install. Thanx
