Not quite, but something alarming happened yesterday. Yesterday was a beautiful day, so I deceided to push my car out of the garage into the driveway so I could have some natural sunlight to work on it. I was pulling the carbs so I could send them up to Bruce Palmer. Anyway, I had to turn the switch to unlock the steering wheel. I forgot to turn the switch off. I pulled the carbs and linkage. About 30 minutes later, I noticed an acidic smell coming from the interior. I stuck my head in, found the switch on, turned it off. No smoke however. I grabbed the fuse cover, yanked it off and put my hand on the fuse block. HOT HOT HOT. After it cooled off, I turned the …

this Monday at night my car did not start, the starter is running but no current in the sparkplugs;, i check the current in the coil and in the ignition module, both have current in the 2 wires when the key is open, the problem is that there is no spark in the cover of the distributor. I bought a new coil yesterday but it did not start; I am almost convinced that it is the ignition module, this morning I bought one in a local autoparts store; tonight I will prove after work.. somebody has some commentary on the matter.

I recently had my 72Z dash reconditioned and replaced it. Now when I turn the ignition key to "start" the relay on the right side of the dash clicks but the starter does not engage. If I jump the selanoid with 12v the starter turns over fine. The car was converted from an automatic years ago. Is there a switch that interupts the ignition somewhere that might be breaking the line from the relay to the selanoid? Thanks for your ideas. Bob M

Hey all, Do any of you have a good source for the 10 guage spade connectors under the dash ? I am looking to replace a melted connector and I need to find the male and female spades along with the plastic housings. I am not against going with an aftermarket part, but, I only want the best. The crimp-on cheap-o connectors you can find at the auto parts store won't work for me. I'm thinking about a GM water-tight or equivalent.

I was trying to start my Z on Saturday, no luck. So I looked under the dash and found a red wire with a spade connector disconnected. I pulled the bottom steering column cover and found the wire that it plugged into. It appears that the wire goes to the very front of the switch. Is this wire for a buzzer or something? The red wire was all by itself, not cinched or taped to the other bundles of wires. I connected it, but still no start. I have spark, so I think it is in the fuel system somewhere. Ran out of time, but will start fuel system diagnosis this week. Thanks for any input.

Finishing with the engine rebuild and I am looking for opinons for the distributor. I am looking at the Crane XR 3000 Electronic Ignition System and their PS-40 High Performance Coil. Has anyone had any expereince with it? Or should I just get an old Distributor out of a late model and swap with the modual. The system now has a Jacobs electronic points box. I have a liitle paperwork on it but would rather dump the points system.

Can you test the level sensors? I got a set of caps through eBay. I just put the test light & battery through the wiring, and I figured tat if one or both floats are UP (caps are upside down on the bench), then the light should go ON, right? thx.

I am having problems with my oil gauge not registering, which most likely is a bad connection somewhere. But wanted to confirm I didn't screw up my alternator upgrade and adaptor connections, as my oil gauge worked before I hooked them up, though they shouldn't have anything in common. Will accept any criticism for my own dumbassery if I connected them wrong!:cross-eye Arne, please confirm that I should have a spare wire on the adaptor unattached. Thanks!!

I have a problem with my 70Z backfireing though the carbs. I the stationary timing marker is gone and i really don't have any idea where the timing should be or if I get it close. Whenever I think I have the car running correctly it changes after running a while. I replaced the distributor with a Malory electronic one and also replaced the coil. Help!!

How do I remove the connectors from the plastic junction box under the passenger side dash without damaging it? It seems as if it would be self explanatory, but I'm having some difficulty. Leaving it connected would require me to remove the under dash harness and engine compartment harness as a unit, which I'd rather not do.
