I just swapped my dizzy out of my '77 to a 80 dizzy as discibed by here http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techti...tor/index.html by BLUE. All the connections are correct. My problem is that when I tried to crank it for the first time , "BANG" out of the tailpipe. So I thought my timing was off some so I rotated the dizzy in both directions and nothing. I also loosened the other mount on the dizzy (the inverted bolt) and the same results. What am I missing? There is spark. And it seems like it's late. If I was to remove and reinstall the spak plug wire clockwise or counter clockwise can that help me out? I don't know which way to go or if there someting else I can do ? I don'…

I'm having problems with the z electrics. A friend of mine checked the wire a couple of months ago, we even were trying to start the car, at the time. Now I tried to hook up the battery. Negitive to the back part of starter and possitive side to the front of the starter. And the possitive post started to smoke. At the time I assumed I must of hooked it up wrong.( everything in the car was off,and the ignition switch was to the off possition.) I even burned out the green fusible link what do I do?

Hello, I am rebuilding a 1980 280ZX dizzy that I am going to put into my early 74. I found 2 ball bearings loose inside and 1 under each of the 3 metal arms on the bottom side. The "stuff" between the metal plates fell out in pieces. Now I want to replace it. I did a search through here and the only link I could find was to MidwestZ, any other places? Thanks.

working on the '72 now i have it where it will run reasonably well. but i can only take it out in daylight. problem is the headlights won't come on. i have parking, brake and turn signals, but no headlights. this is the farthest into this car i've been so i never saw the headlights work before. i assume, of course, they did work at one point but i do not know if someone previously disconnected something or it's an electrical gremlin of its own device. also, since installing a pertronix i have no tach reading. where does the tach get its signal? i have several haynes manuals for this car but it seems the schematics start with the '75 or '76 models. where do i look…

I have a 79 280zx , and am changing from FI to triple weber 40 dcoe's setup. I have a motorsport header, and 2.5 in. custom exhaust system with magnaflow muffler, and am planning the following mods: Fidanza aluminum flywheel, act hdss clutch, motorsport stage 2 cam kit, carter fuel pump. I'm not sure which distributor, and electronic ignition I should buy. I was thinking either mallory or msd, does anyone have any suggestions on which one to buy? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

Is it normal for a remanufactured alternator to not fit the oem bracket? The bracket on my L28 engine is about 1/8 - 1/4 inch too big to fit between the ears on the alternator. Reman ufactured alternator is from NAPA. thx

I have read through a bunch of posts here about turn signal problems but I haven't noticed any that seem directly related to my problem. My turn signals seem to work. They blink on the dash and I hear the blinking noise. I haven't checked the outside lights yet but I know all the lights do light up. Also the hazards work and everything flashes. The problem is that the turn signal lever doesn't click into place when I move it. So if I push it down it feels kind of mushy and just stays there even after I turn. I have to turn it off myself. The guy that sold me the car said the signals didn't work at all. So I'm guessing that sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Is …

Ok, so I am looking for suggestions and experince on hiding an antenna inside my Z. I have the following antenna: http://www.ecshylites.citymax.com/catalog/item/604191/368049.htm I went ahead and closed up my antenna hole (it's much better looking and means I don't need to find an expensive replacement antenna). My thought was the area right next to the windshied on the passanger side, but I don't know if there will be enough room. The antenna is 2 feet long and 1/2" thick. I also thought about under the headliner, but I am worried about the reception. Anyone out there mounted something like this before?

Here's the deal. I lost the keys to my car about a month ago. I need to either replace the whole ignition or buy just the key cylinder. Only question is, do I need the key to get the cylinder out? My step-dad thinks I do, but I'm sure somebody knows on here. Thank you.

I've recently had a problem with my car not starting. I mean nothing, like the battery is not even connected. I've checked the battery and it is fully charged however I tried to start it directly from the starter motor across a screw driver, nothing once aqain!? I've heard that these cars have problems with regulators and these symptoms point to it. Any comments? How does the regulator work and where is it? I've provided some pics below of where I think the problem might be!???????????
