As we all know the stock Zed lights aren't bright enough at all, i initially bought some h4 reflectors off ebay and was going to upgrade the wiring and run some of those "xenon lookalike" bulbs or just high wattage ones, and eventually putting in a HID conversion kit, but after looking at my mates cars with all of the above i realised it wasn't really worth the effort. i was impressed by igor's (007max on hybridz) retrofitting of 5 series projectors and lexus is300 ballasts into some 7" reflectors so i set out to getting some real HID's and a good quality projector lense for myself, either wanting a matching pair off a bmw or honda accord euros, and ended up with some of…

OK, I did the ZX alt. swap with the help of Arne's adapter and excellent directions. As soon as I was able to start the car, a high-pitched squeal eminated from the engine compartment that was NOT there before the swap. Tonight, I got the car warmed up, the squeal was not as intense, but was still present. I noticed, as I was taking the car down the driveway, that the lights would dim (maybe -30% intensity) when I hit the brakes. I looked at the ammeter and it was reading on the negative end of the scale. I tired different accessories, ie windsheild wiper, and the car nearly stalled! The headlights nearly went out, and the wipers froze about 6 inches up the windheild. I c…

I recently dropped my fuel tank on my '71 240z to get it acid washed and applied the Por-15 tank sealer kit to it and Por-15 the outside, while I was at it I decided to install a new sending unit and O-ring so that I wouldn't have to mess around with the tank for years to come!! All seemed to go well but after about a week my fuel gauge reads either very full or about 7/8th of a tank. I decided to remove the sending unit to see if it would read correctly outside of the tank, I first checked the connections, all seemed well and there were no loose fittings nor any change to the gauge when I jiggled/tweaked them. After I removed the unit the gauge would respond to moving th…

I love how some old cars have a purplish tint to their lights. Did they just replace the white bulb with a purple bulb? Anyone got this on their car?

First post here, hope someone can help solve this. The hazard lights haven't worked since I bought my '77 Z almost 4 years ago. I've gone through the FSM and came up with the following: --checked the fusible links for continuity--~.4 ohms, and power--~12.4 volts at the end of each link; --verified the 10amp fuse in the fuse block is good; --verified I have ~12.4 volts at the hot terminal (red with white stripe wire) of the hazard flasher; --pulled the hazard flasher out of the car, put 12 volts across the terminals and heard it clicking on and off; --tested continuity of the switch per the FSM, and it's working like it should. I'm stuck. Any ideas of what else should I…

Nobody has really responded to much posts about problems involving 70-71 body harness with 72-73 dash and switches. And I can't seem to find threads on that subject. I have a '71 body and turn signal switch with a '73 dash and headlight switch. The turn signal was inconsistent in operation and headlights would not work. People said that a '72 or '73 turn signal switch would fix the problem. So I got a '72 turn signal switch and the problem was exactly the same. When I turn the key on, the headlights will come on even when the headlight switch is off; turn signals were still inconsistent; brake lights and hazard won't work. SO I assume the turn signal switch wasn't the…

I have a 11/79 280Z fi car. Purchased to get running and resell. The starter, fi, guages were working fine yesterday as I tried to start her after installing new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. She cranked over and all seemed fine then NOTHING! I mean NOTHING! No seat buzzer, no guages, no hazards. Battery checks OK, probe confirms fuses. Should I look for a relay or fusable link? Lee

...a common problem with the Z's are burnt/melted fuseboxes, and all the places I've seen that carry the OEM fusebox or a replacement like the bladed type fusebox that MSA sells go for insane amounts of money. If we, as Z car fanatics, can make wiring harnesses and alternator plug adapters, then someone should try to find a way to reproduce the fusebox like MSA sells, but for alot cheaper. I'm sure that if someone were to make one, and sell it for around $100 as opposed to MSA's outrageous $199, they'd make a killing. Just an idea, I'd make it work, but don't have the resources to do so!

I spent some time this afternoon trying to debug the wiring mess in my early '71 240Z, and the findings aren't good. When the original fusebox melted for one of the previous owners, it took out one or more wires in one of the harnesses as well. Said wire(s) got hot enough to destroy the insulation on several other wires in the bundle as well. This is where my problem with a constant battery draw comes from, I'm sure. The farther I unwrap, the worse it gets. So I'm looking for info on the various harness pieces, as I fully expect I'll have to replace some. Specifically the one(s) that connect to the fusebox leads with six-terminal connectors. I've got several questions: T…

My friend just bought a 79' 280zx off of ebay the past week. At first the car would start just fine. But for the past few days the car wont start and we hear a clicking noise when he turns the key. Probably the starter... I'm just not sure how to check that. Anyway it's not the battery as I checked the voltage and thats fine... Any sugestions would help thx, Allen
