I have a 73 240z 4spd, and my Speedo recently went out. I was driving to school in the morning and all of a sudden it jumped around, then just went to 0mph. The cable that goes to the transmission is fastened tightly, there are no bad bends, but it does have alot of fluid on it. Also my tach does not work, it is a 3 prong. Where should i begin to troubleshoot it at? And my temp. guage recently stoped working, it just sits all the way to the left. It was working great and i do not know what is worng.

Well... I was just at my buddy's house tonight, and we spent a good 2+ hours rewiring the speakers in the back of my Z with 'premium quality' speaker wire to replace whatever-the-hell kind of wire there was under the carpetting and what have you. I thought the wiring was the source of my lousy sound in the back, but, ha, I was wrong. It wasn't until we had the speakers unmounted and rewired did we realize that the sound wasn't really 'bad' ... it was just 'quiet' ... then it was me who said, "hey... dont most cars usually have amplifiers in the back?" Then we realized that an amp was the missing ingredient to the equation. The head unit has plenty of power to send to the …

I'm in the process of wringing out the wiring on my '70 240Z during restoration. Previously someone jumpered a wire between the BW wire at the ignition switch and the BW wire just before the coil thus bypassing all of the wiring in dash. I suspect this was because they were not getting power to the coil. The way it looks to me on the wiring diagram, the coil gets power from the BW wire at the ignition by (from the ignition switch) going to the BW wire at the resistor, thru the resistor to the GW wire, then to the tach, thru the tach and then via the BW wire from the tach to the coil. All wires have wrung out correctly. The tachometer did not work when I dismantled the ca…

Hey everyone, I just need a real quick favor. When I got my 280Z, the battery did not have the little device to secure it and is being held in by a bun-gee chord. I found what I think is the little bracket on a 75 280Z in a salvage yard on the floor in the car. I want to get it, but I cannot find how this is used to secure the battery. Question one, is this little bracket going to be the same on my 77 as it is on this 75? And if its possible, could you post a picture of yours so I can see how this thing works. I've been looking online for some time now and cannot find a good pic of this battery area. My Haynes maual also says nothing. Thanks.

My 77 wiring diagram and the haynes manuals disagree (apparently) on the connection of certain items. They both bear little resemblance to what's in the vehicle (as far as the fusebox bus strips go) . My problem appears to be a (partially) bad ign relay, since shorting to the + on the battery from the back of the fuse box causes some features to work (engine room lamp and voltmeter, for example). But then.... the engine room lamp never NEEDED the damn relay to begin with. Hmmm.. I'm confusing myself here. Let's clarify. The voltmeter, Dome lamp, brake lights, tail lights (or ANY running lights), dash lights and engine lamp don't work. The headlights, warning buzzer, bra…

For those of you who haven't found it yet, you local Wally-World probably carries something called Liquid Electrical Tape. In a store near me it's carried by the Bondo-Spray Paint-Auto repair section of the store. This liquid dries to a nice rubber coating and can be used to seal electrical connections against air and moisture. I think we can all think of fifty thousand places on a Z (especially the EFI models) that can use this sort of protection. Waterlogging TVS springs to mind immediately. Heck, maybe it can repair crusty weatherstrip, who knows?

My son saw this on one of the car shows. It is for those of us who don't drive our Z's everyday. The Battery Tender Jr. keeps your battery ready to go. I have bought one for all my Z cars. Works very well. Here is a good deal on this product. I bought 2 for $45 shipped! They are around $32 at Pep Boys. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34284&item=4560538688&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Here is their website. http://www.batterytender.com/

I've narrowed my starting problem down to the starter/solenoid not getting power. (after installing a new starter, batt. cables, ignition switch). I know the negative batt cable grounds on the starter and the positive batt. cable goes to the starter lead. My question is which wire goes to the lead on the starter solenoid to give it power. There is a thick harness on the frame rail with a line coming from it that is going to the same lead as the pos batt cable. There is also another harness (thinner) that comes from over the auto trans tunnel and along the frame rail with a little yellow wire that comes out from there. I'm thinking the wire from the thick harness shou…
