Just wanted to clear up a few questions I had relating to proper coil operation. When the key is on "ON" but the engine not going, power should be going into the + of the coil. Should current flow between the + and - of the coil without the engine on? Should it flow between the + of the coil and the chassis ? When the Coil is firing the current between the + and - of the coil should be "pulsating" right? Thanks, just trying to sort out why my car has no spark (distributor and coil are fine).

OK I have spark now, and I have fuel pressure at the injectors. But They dont seem to be opening. The spark plug does not smell like fuel, and I cant feel them clicking. I checked and there is curernt going to both wires of the injector. Any ideas ? Cheers

Which is the closest top post to the engine? I thought the negative was closest to the motor and the positive was up under the inspection lid. Thanks in advance......Keith

<geeez> :stupid: Where the heck does the black wire that comes off the coil on my 82zx go? The car still runs without it being hooked up but i'm sure it is suppose to go somewhere? And..... i know this isn't an electrical question but where can i find a schematic for the hoses. i have a feeling some of them are not right?

Just wondering if anyone has tried to install this on a Z. This is a newer technology where each spark plug has its own ignition coil directly on top of the plug. Because there are no high voltage leads going along the engine you can get higher voltages and sparks. One problem I've read about is that the coils can short out. Here's what the coil on plug coil looks like on a 6.0L Lambroghini Diablo (that's my parts car I have up on blocks behind the garage )

hey everyone its been awhile. alright some time ago i mentioned that my dash lights hadnt worked since i took out the stereo in my 75. well i think i finally figured it out, i hope. your opinions would be much appreciated before i proceed. alright in the schematic it shows a green wire with a white tracer connecting the ignition to the light switch in the combo and then also to all of the dashlights and headlights and such. the headlights have their own ground up front and are on a diferent ground from that of the dashlights. they have always worked. but the dashlights i believe have their ground through a red wire with a blue tracer as shown in the schematic. this…

I am FED UP with the dual point mallory, as I am sure that this is the reason for the erratic stumbling on acceleration, this motor will free rev ( I know nono ) all day long and then under a load will occasionally seem like a rev limiter has suddenly stepped into the picture. Anyone that has suggestions please lemme know, I drove the car this morning to work and like usual, the problem is gone and the car has GREAT pull and power all the way up. I even beat a fiat off the line. Kidding. But you wait, lunch will come and the car will hesitate again... At any rate, anyone have any suggestions regarding dizzys? I want to ofcourse get away from the points, so those o…

I have a 72 with the original wiper motor in there. When it is switched on, the little box that is clamped to the side of the motor clicks, but nothing happens. So, I bought a used motor and it does the exact same thing. Does anyone know where to begin troubleshooting? What exactly is that little box?

A friend gave me a 78 280Z that needs some TLC. All seems well but needs some fixing up. He said it will run but needs a fuel pump relay. He had it hardwired to make it run, but has sat for about 2 years since he ran it last. He gave me 2 starters and both have shorted silinoids (sp). The hot wire coming from the battery to the siliniod is shorted to the chassis ground-- I've tested it with a meter. When ever the battery is hooked up, the started starts turning the engine over. There is some Jerry rigging on the wiring harness by the front passenger strut tower, just rear of the AC tank. This is on some white wires approx 10ga. If you have any idea what I'm talki…

Hey guys, I got myself a power antenna about a year ago, and it just decided to bite the bullet. Whenever I turn on the stereo, the antena makes one "click" type noise, but the motor does not run to push the antenna up. Same when i turn the stereo off. I'm tired of the extra hassle. I'm wondering if it's possible to get a stubby short rubber covered antenna like those seen on the 350Z or S2000 and use it on an early Z. I'm going to the Nissan dealership today to see if they can order an antenna, but if you guys know a little more than me, please let me know. However, I haven't seen anyone with that style of antenna on this forum yet, so, I might actually be the first to …
