Hi...I've an 83 280ZXT, and when I turned the key to acc position 1, the point at which the radio/subwoofers/antenna go on, the radio played/displayed a few secs then went out/no display, and I've not been able to get it going since! I checked the radio fuse, as well as the other fuse the self powered sub amps run off of and no burnt fuses. The subs powered up along with all other acc position 1 devices, so I am pretty sure there's nothing wrong with ignition power relay, and I am pretty sure no aftermarket fuses were wired into the radio, only underhood relays for the amp-which are ok too! The antenna doesn't go up, though, which is to be expected, I guess (assume the…

Most newer cars have wiring installed for all the different options you can get- you just need to put in the switches & stuff. Does the 280Z have wiring in place so you can install some driving/fog lights?

OKay i replace a fried plug in my 74 260Z under my ignition (the one with nine wires)... but Im not one-hundred percent sure I rebuilt my plugs right.... I might have them backwards... or upside down... or just in total disarray. Could someone look under their car and tell me the plug combinations... DO something like GY(greenyellow) to R(red), BW(blackwhite) to L(blue), etc. Thank you so much... Oh, hey, maybe send a picture for reference...

Good day, I finaly got my Z to run. Now I am having a problem with the exterior lights. When the engine is running all the lights seem to have a strobe effect. Could this be the voltage regulator or the alternator? Also, my headlights come on and off when they please. the fuses are new and so are the bulbs. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Coil Shock

The MSD 6AL ignition is installed, the car runs like a champ and all necessary grounds are connected. When the car is running and you touch the coil you get shocked. The wire from the distributor to the coil is connected tight. The coil is a Crane Fireball PS-40. Could the coil be going bad? Don't know if it's always been this way because I've never touched the coil when the car was running. Any ideas? Vicky

Hello all. I recently bought a 1971 240 to play with, not a serious restore, but more of a fun car project. It has a good bit of rust in select areas of the floor and in typical areas under the body, overall its in decent shape to start with. vin number is HLS30-06201 for those who like that sort of thing :knockedou .. my first question is brake lights, turn signals and headlights. the previous owner has put in a switch to operate headlights separate from the stock switch. Is this common to do? also my brake light indicator on the speedometer works when i press on the brakes and use E-brake, but the rear brake lights do not come on when i use brake. all lights on the car…

Well I just wrapped up my final semester of school, and what happens to me on the last couple of days??? Electrical problems... Heres what happened, and what continues to happen. My 74 260Z, All of a sudden, has lost all tach, fuel gauge , oil gauge and fan function. And my amp gauge reads a varying drain, even when the car is revved. Upon a glancing observation I found that all the gauges use the same green-white wire. Continuity was... continuitous( is that a word?) through out the harness, however after the plug box I lose track of the wire... My question(s) 1) WHats going on here?!?. 2) Where is the beginning of this green/white wire. 3)am i on the right track?? Oh ye…

Hi all - I'd love some advice on my '70 240Z. I replaced the distributor, had a new ignition coil installed, the SU carbs rebuilt, and spent last weekend sitting in the hatchbay replacing the rear electrical harness so I can have rear lights. This weekend since there's no football, I plan the herculean task of going through the engine bay and tracing out wires that have been painted black and will need to cut and splice wires from a replacement harness I obtained so I can have a neat set of wires (I don't have the intestinal fortitude to dig under the dash and remove the entire setup from there, plus, I've gotten pretty good at cutting and splicing). When the distributor …

I would highly apreciate it if someone could tell me the firing order from front to rear of the engine and the distributor order, i recently ordered a header and a twice pipes exhaust package, but i already have my new spark plugs and wires, but my car sometimes missfires so i believe it is in the wrong order so i do not want to put in the new stuff until i know 100% that its all in the right order. Thank you

When my 71 Z and outside temp is cold, I can turn the key and get nothing for a few seconds, before the starter will kick over. When it is warm outside or the car is warm the starter engages normally. Does it sound like my starter/solenoid is going? Battery charge is OK.

I was taking my sound system out a few days ago and when I got to the actual deck I discovered the fuse box cover had a bit of heat distortion. Checking the fuses I found the top two on the right hand side had overheated and melted the plastic box. They are still holding on but it’s bothering me now so I’m going to be replacing it. The weird thing is there were two wires that had been tapped in to two separate fuses. I’m no electrician but I’m willing to bet that this could be the cause of the overheating. These wires were not there when I bought the car so some electrician has done a dodgy job of it. I have heard of the fuse boxes melting with stock load but putt…
